M680 Delayed? Anybody else having problems?

Hey everyone,

As I posted before, I have an M680 that I placed an order for on 3/31. Long story short, my ETA has gone from 4/14, to 4/21, to 4/25, to shipping within 2 weeks, to now Not Available. Of course all of these different answers have come via email, phone, automated messages, and the website respectively.

Anyone else have one on order that is having a hard time getting an ETA? The delays aren't bugging me as much as the changing dates on a daily basis and of course the inconsistant answers I get from each and every gateway employee. I'm now getting frustrated to the point of cancelling my order, even though someone how they managed to ship out a port replicator, but no computer with it. Huh?!

Anyway, I would love to hear from anyone whom might be having similar problems and might have some insight!

Is your machine configured with a 600GB 7200RPM drive? I hear these are in short supply, and may be the cause for delay. Funny, I have one just sitting in my office unopened.

My order got delayed from ETA 4/13 to ETA 4/22. I wonder if the "ready to ship" models are shipping. When I ordered my Dell, the shipping date went from 22 days to 9 days.

Yup! I have the 60GB 7200rpm drive on mine. You might be right, and that is whats causing the delay. My beef is Gateway can;t give me a striaght answer as to why.

Their original "reason" was my Port Replicator was on back order. They told me this on Tuesday, the day my Port Replicator arrived via UPS.

Gateway's communication is poor compared to Dell in my own opinion. Like I said, it wouldn;t bother me if they could just be honest and consistent about it.

Im going to try and call once more to find out about my system and Im not gonna hang up until they tell me WHY it's delayed.

 

Yeah, unless their suppliers (Hitachi in this case) keep delaying. By the way, I email gateway about not getting the 60GB drive and this is what they said:

"Andrew, please be advised that your order has already gone through the
production process wherein amendments are no longer possible. However,
please be assured that your order is important to us and we will do
everything possible to expedite your shipment. I am confident you will
find the order worth the wait."

Probably a cut and paste response.

Just an FYI, a member of NotebookForums said he just recieved his M680 today, and he ordered on 4/4! DOH! Not sure which hard drive he chose though. I cant believe I order on 3/31 and mine is going to arrive 2 weeks LATER!

He hasnt posted a review or pics yet, but his initial impression looks very positive!

 

Well, I ordered my 680XL or you could say 680XL QS (quick ship) on Sat. and recieved notice tonight that it has been shipped. We will see. HOpefully here on Friday as I want to take with me out of town and have to spend all day loading on programs etc.

Anyone else recieved their's yet? Please post if you do.

Going to use Detto Intellimover to transfer everything that I need. Anyone's opinion on this would be appreciated. Used it once before transferring from old desktop to new desktop.

It turns out I had to cancel my order. I’m getting another Gateway on review loan, and if I determine I really like Gateways, I’ll reorder and attempt to sell my Dell.

The cancellation process was like no other. First the computer phone system told me all reps were busy and simply hung up on me, several times! Then I got through right away and the guy canceled my order without asking any questions or encouraging me to keep it.

Please report on the Detto proram, we're currious to hear about it.

I purhased the Gateway M680 on 4/14 with an estimated delivery of 4/28. My order has shipped today and Fedex has the delivery date as 4/27; one day earlier than Gateway's estimation. BTW, I did not order the 7200rpm drive.

 

Funny, I just recieved an email today saying my order (placed on 4/4) is delayed until 5/12.

Funny because I canceled my order over the phone.

You want to talk about funny... When I first placed the order, naturally the money was taken out of my checking account. Then a few days later, the money showed back up in my account. I thought there might have been a problem, but today I just got an email saying my order has already been shipped, BUT I still have the money in my account. Weird.
