    So, when I turn my computer on for the first time, it doesn't recognize the microphone at all. The camera still works, but no mic.

    I do a "Restart" and the mic works fine, but if I shut it down, and start it back up, the mic won't work.

    Any ideas? I've tried everything.

    One of two things come to mind;

    1.) the mic for whatever reason is not powering up in time to initialize. Little to do here other than get a new internal mic.

    2.) the resorces in the DMI are wrong. Windows can move around the resources durring boot. Now the mic may not be happy doing this after hardware initialization so it does not work. What can happen here with a soft boot is a reinitialization with the new assigned hardware resources so now it works. A reset of the DMI by clearing out fully the CMOS or DMI post failure could resolve this.
