Recently Tigerdirect had this deal for refurbished MT3422 w 3 months warranty deal and I bought it as it was $260 off. I got unit in like new condition but there is an inch wide dark stain at the bottom of the screen only noticeable if you specifically look for it. It seems like there was a tape glued on the screen and somebody removed it forcibly leaving black scratchy dots, but actually it is the screen itself as I was unable to remove it using screen cleaning gel.
So my question is: should I return this unit? The price is good, but is it sufficiently good for that kind of LCD fault? If I return it I cannot get replacement as all of these units sold out so the question is what would be other option to buy for $450 or so?

Can you possibly get a better system new?-Best Buy and Circuit City often times have some very good deals on Gateway systems.

What I do not know is what REFURBISHED means? Obviously something was wrong with the machine so it was returned by previous buyer, but they are supposed to fix it, are they not? In this case I would expect they would replace LCD because they state on their web site that "minor cosmetic in nature" things can be noticed, but under these I would consider things like scratches from usage on the lid, on the palm rest, keyboard keys, if memory was faulty they would replace it etc. I think this wide dark stain on the screen is not minor cosmetic thing and that I should return it. Would you live with this glitch for $450? I hear people had deals of $600 with Gateways in the past. Maybe holiday season will bring similar deals in 500-600 range for brand new machines w/out any glitch? What do you think?
