This laptop seems perfect for me, but I don't have much experience buying computers.

    Here is the link http://www.gateway.com/retail/mt3423.php

I am interested in the reliability of the product because I see so many mixed reviews.

I have heard that the wireless card isn't very good. This is important to me and was wondering if you could and an external one or something if it wasn' good enough for my uses.

Any thoughts on this particular computer or Gateways as a whole?

    Thanks,
    Amanda

I just purchased it a couple days ago. Wireless card is working fine. Found my home network when I started Vista. I'm going to be taking it over to school tomorrow to see if they have a wireless set up and if I can find it.

So far I like it, I haven't divorced myself from AC power yet since I've been working primarily at home but the smaller screen and weight are huge bonuses coming from an 8510GZ.

If you have any other questions in particular, I'd be happy to try and anwser them.

    Thanks for the reply.

Would this be a good computer if I do a lot of photo editing? I would like to get PSP.

How is the flex in the keyboard? In some of the reviews I have heard that it is pretty bad.

I went to 5 or 6 different stores today looking at laptops, and this one still looks like the best.

    Thanks,
    Amanda

I do not know how good the system will be for photo editing, I don't have any software on the machine to do it at the moment, however with a dual core processor and a GO 6150, I think it should be ok. Might want to ask some other people though.

Keyboard wise, I think it's a little loud to type on, but the keys click nicely and it's easy for me to type on, otherwise, it's a good keyboard. To me, it doesn't seem to flex too much.

Hey if you want to know firsthand how awesome this notebook is than you need to read this!

I am an ASP.NET web developer and I just purchased this notebook on Monday 8/24/07 and I have been 100% impressed from the get go! For $650 bucks you cannot beat this note book! I attend Texas State and I found my self on weak access points most of the time however I was still able to get on the internet at decent speeds. Windows vista runs excellent with a startup time of about 20 seconds. I installed Adobe CS3 Designer Premium in about 5 mins. Photoshop loads up extremely fast and the 2 gigs of ram comes in extra handy when opening up extremely large psd's. Multi-tasking is extremly easy to acheive with this notebook! As for the flex in the keyboard I am not personally experienceing that issue however I did notice a slight flex in the display model at Circuit City. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me as I'd be happy to answer any questions!

I bought this laptop at Circuit City for $650. It's awesome. Same laptop with the same specs at Dell was over $1500. True the battery is limited, but I always plug in. I did have a problem with the wireless connecting automatically. I had to right click the network icon and choose "diagnose and repair" each time. I went to the Windows Update site and noticed an update for the Nvidia networking (it's optional so you have to look for it on the Windows update site). After doing this update it connects everytime automatically to two differenct wireless networks I use. Performance on this laptop is great. It comes with 2 GB of RAM but maxes out at 2 GB, which I figure will be good for the next few years (with all the updates and antivirus updates which continually become more intensive on the resources). Great laptop, with great specs and a super price tag.
