I am thinking of buying one of these this week, because Best Buy has them at $600 again. Are there any major problems that people have had with this notebook?

i just bought one of these on tuesday from best buy. i am using it now to type this. i love it, the screen is on of the sturdiest ive seen and it was actually the sturdiest bb had on display. by sturdy i mean wobble when it is open. the only problems i had was two keys were hard to push but after pushing them a few times they work fine. and after the computer goes into sleep mode it will not recognize wireless connections and i must reboot, but this may be my fault and i dont know why, im working on it. battery life is good on balanced mode. i cleaned pretty much everything off it came with except for mcafee. i also modified startup apps and some other things but i got a super pi of 1'39'' plugged in. i should also note that this is a mt3705 but it has an intel dual core pentium t2250(1.73 GHz) instead of the 1.6GHz t2060. overall i would def recommend this notebook.

might want to look at the device properties and see if that the system is not being allowed to turn this "device off to save power"

most of the times, all u need is to disable&enable the device, and it should be back.up from being turned off during sleep/hibernation

    cheers ...

i found this to be a driver problem, after downloading and installing the most recent wireless drivers, the problem went away. by the way, don't use the windows update to get drivers for this notebook, it screwed a lot of things up on the system for me. get them directly from the gateway website.

can i ask what driver you installed? all i can find on gateways website is the intel pro wireless drivers and i have a realtek wireless card. i tried the intel driver but as expected nothing happened. i can find nothing on gateways website for my wireless card. i contacted support and they told me to use gateway reocvery to recover the driver and the only driver listed for networks was the dialup modem driver.

i just got this notebook, and it also has a 1.7 dual core processor instead of the 1.6 it was supposed to have. Of course when i realized this, i was pretty happy :) either way i couldn't be happier with this notbook, its great especially for the price.

I had the left speaker go bad on mine a couple weeks ago. Had a chat session with Gateway tech support. Guy sent me out a return box within 2 days. Sent it in for warr on Monday and it was delivered back to my door on Friday. I was really impressed with the turnaround time and the help given by tech support. Other than that, I love it. I use for internet and playing WOW.

i'm pretty sure i used the realtek driver, i know the i tried the intel one first and as you found out it didn't work. I unistalled the driver software using the device manager, and then uninstalled the card itself and rebooted. Then i tried it with the realtek driver and it worked perfectly.

i believe the reason they have two different wireless drivers posted on the site is because different production batches of the machine were sent with different wireless cards. can't be sure of course, but i know stuff like that does happen.

of course the posting of 2 different drivers could just be a mistake too,

but use the instructions i gave above and you should be all set.
