    I have a Gateway MX3560 Notebook PC / Intel Pentium M 1.7GHz , 400MHz FSB/ 802.11g Wireless / 14-Inch WXGA TFT / 512MB DDR / 80GB HDD / DVDRW / Windows XP Pro
    Having trouble with
    HITACHI TRAVELSTAR 80GN IC25N080ATMR04 - HDD - 80 GB - INTERNAL - 2.5IN. - ATA/IDE -100, 4200 RPM - BUFFER: 8 MB. Dated JAN 06.

Not detected in bios. Its Master on Primary. And 90% of the time tests say no drive attached. Other times tests say cable detached but there is no ribbon on this, HDD plugs directly into the motherboard. Hitachi's Drive fitness test says Failure code 0x20 - Device not found. Technical result code 2000DEB6. I also noticed in bios for HDD Firmware is blurred squares instead of numbers or letters.
Also on my quest to find out if its the HDD or Motherboard a test said no primary controller found. Also check Primary IDE Cable. Is there another test I can use to check if its Motherboard,IDE Controller,or HDD.

honestly sounds like ur mother board has screwed up...it could be a techincal fault (broken componant) or a firmware fault, you might have to take it to a shop to get it tested :O

No I dont think so,At least not quite yet.Like usual I will try to diagnose it myself. Then try to repair it myself. Then try again. Then come to these great forums for info. Then learn how to or where to.Then repair or replace the motherboard or HDD or what have you. That I sometimes buy from adverts and reviews from these sites.I find that sites like these have some great deals to be had.Good for the forum too.And I save $45 to $65 an hour Labor.
With 5 teens all girls and all have computers, plus mine and my wifes.
I have to do it this way LOL.
Anyway I need to find out if its the MB or HDD.It may be the firmware for the Hitachi Travelstar HDD.But hard to find and gateway says OEM so ask someone else.Hopefully not the MB.Windows live and all else works great off USB and DVD.Just cannot find the harddrive.Anyone know where to get firmware for Hitachi Travelstar HDDs.
