Anyone have experience with this computer? Is this a good deal for a basic laptop (primarily for internet browsing and mulimedia, no gaming)? Thanks.

Looks like a low end machine, definitely not going to be running any high end games on it. Celeron is not too impressive but it does seem to have the basics. 512MB of ram is ok for XP. A gig would be better but it's not a deal breaker. No dvd burner though. No Microsoft Office. Does have built in wireless. For the price I think it's a good deal if your usage is light. Surf the web, email etc. Anything more than that and you might want to consider something a bit more powerful. I just bought the MX7118 and so far I've been happy with it but the specs are quite different from this one.

    Regards,
    Fleet

I purchased this computer yesterday, so my experience has been limited. I teach and wanted a computer for record keeping at work and home. I'm not a gamer beyond my Sims2 lameness, and that does indeed work on this notebook. The display is nothing exciting, but it's not a blight, either. I've not been able to test battery life, as I'm always somewhere with a power outlet.

It does include "Microsoft Works", which I didn't know still existed... but for my limited record keeping needs it will suffice.

It plays compressed videos and dvds without a problem. If you've got any other questions, let me know. I have not tried the burner yet...

Its not a bad machine at all for the average internet/word processing/cd burning dvd playing user. Its got wifi built it, and 512 megs of ram is really plenty if you arent doing games or anything (which this machine isnt designed to really do anyways). Even with antivirus and spyware protection installed and say media player and a few internet windows up you shouldnt be using more than 300 megs of ram. 40 gigs is a tad small but sufficient for normal word files and a bit of music and pictures (has a 4 in 1 card reader too). Office doesnt come standard on anything and hasnt for a while. Its not a part of the OS although it was included for free for a long time. Works is always a standard on most retail systems along with a 60 day trial of office. I think its a great deal for the money (230$ off instant). I'm not a big Celeron fan, but for most peoples' needs this is a nice widescreen notebook.

Looks like a superb deal :)
If it works for your needs, go for it. Although, if you are willing to spend a little more, I would search for one with a Pentium M or AMD Turion. Otherwise, it is a modest machine.
