If it doesn't work the first time, try it again using the recommended settings. It will definitely work. Now I have sound in my notebook again! I hope this will help others looking for the MX6450 audio drivers for Windows Vista 32.
Original Post:
Hello everyone. I am new here.
Anyways, I installed Windows Vista on my MX6450 but there's a problem: it has no audio drivers. I've been using this notebook without audio for a long time now and can't get it to work. I tried downloading one of the drivers at the gateway support site but it did not work. The Vista audio drivers for it can't download for some reason.
I really don't know what to do. I would prefer to go back to Windows XP because my notebook runs much better that way. But my installation disc (Gateway Recovery Disc XP Media Center Edition) stops functioning at about 90%. It just shuts down. So I have to re-install Vista if I want to use my notebook.
I also gave XP Pro a try but don't know how to boot it. It always goes straight to Vista. I did change the boot settings but it didn't do anything. Oh and I searched about this audio issue but I had no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Whether it's going back to XP or simply installing the missing audio drivers. I still about 1 & 1/2 year warranty at Best Buy but I don't think they will cover this.
Thanks in advance. If you need more information, just ask.![]()
p.s. I can't afford a new notebook so I was thinking of adding more ram to mine because I'm learning how to make 3D Graphics using Maya 8.5. I just don't know if extra ram will give my notebook a little boost despite not having a good video card.

Just to be sure, this is the driver youre downloading right?
http://support.gateway.com/support/...dio Driver version: 6.10.5713.0&uid=202747242
And most DEFINITELY get more RAM if youre running less than 2gb. It will not only help with Maya, it'll make your system much more responsive now that you're running Vista. -
That's correct. But it won't finish downloading for some reason. It stops at 20%.
-
It stops DOWNLOADING at 20% or it stops installing at 20%?
-
Stops downloading.
-
Ok. I reuploaded it to a different site in case you are just having issues with the gateway servers. Try downloading from here and see if its sucessful:

Same problem. =( Download stops at 24%. What if it was compressed with winrar or something? Think that would work?
-
It already is compressed, its just a self extracting exe. The fact that it stops at 24% no matter where you download it from is very interesting to say the least. Do you have problems downloading anything else?
-
I don't. Last night I downloaded 100mb files without any problems.
I'm going to give it another try. -
K. Ill recompress in winrar and re-upload it to a different site. Ill post another link here in a bit.
-
Thanks! It's downloading just fine!
-
Cool. Glad to hear it. Hopefully this will take care of your issue.
-
dang! It downloaded but I'm having problems installing it. I get this message:
"ExitError:Error=Device Object not present, restart system and run setup again"
I extracted the files and put them in the correct location and all. -
Hmm. That sounds as if its the wrong driver, but I know its not. You may be having hardware issues. Let me see if I can figure anything out. you may also wanna google mx6450 audio
