Has anyone had success installing Vista on their MX7118? I get an endless BSOD loop before it completes the install. The last line in the bootlog file is: Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\Udfs.sys

    Specs:

    Gateway MX7118
    Motherboard Arima RX480M (Shadow Chassis)
    CPU AMD Athlon 64 3400+ M 2.20 GHz
    Memory 1GB DDR PC2700
Video ATI RadeonĀ® XPRESS 200M NB
    Audio (Various) AC '97
Hard Drive (Seagate) Notebook 120 GB 5400RPM
    Primary Optical Drive [DVD-R/RW] Generic 8x DVD+/-RW Dual-Layer Burner
    Modem Conexant 56K ITU v.92 Fax/Modem
Network Interface Integrated 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
    Additional Network Interface (unknown) 802.11g

    Any help out there?

i would venture to say that either:
. the installation medium is corrupt
. not enough disk space is being assigned to vista (at least 20-25gb is my personal recommendation)

    cheers ...

Well.. I copied the media to the HD and tried to install it that way, too. Same results.

I also have a 120GB new drive. The partition I was installing Vista on is 40GB. I tried on an 80GB first. Same results.

I tried another Vista CD, too! Same results.

The first DVD I tried installing was the DVD that MS sent me. When that didn't work I tried a friend's DVD. That didn't work either. These are genuine DVDs from MS and I have a unique and legitimate product key issued to me from MS.

it could be hardware that has recently went bad. Try installing XP just to see if you can get everything installed properly. If you end up with the same results I would lean towards faulty hardware.

I had a problem like this on a desktop a few years back, win2000 would install to a certain point and then **** would hit the fan. ended up being ram that had went bad.
