I want to try putting a 1GB stick inside the machine, to give me 2GB total (I have another 1GB in the external compartment). While the specs say 1.5GB total, Gateway tells me it should take 2.

I unscrewed a lot of accessible screws from the bottom (4 different sizes!) but I'm stuck at the hinge end of the machine.

    So,

    a) Anybody open up one of the other 7000 series models to do this?

    b) Any idea where to get a service manual on Gateway machines? I've been looking on eBay, but haven't found anything even close.

Might want to check this site out. It isn't the 7xxx series but the one he worked on is about the same setup. Look under guides. hope that helps.
