Hello everyone. I'm new to the forums, been reading them for about 2 weeks now and I've really appreciated all the helpful information. But I wanted to relate my story, to see if anyone may have some input.

I bought my MX7515 last October and I've been very happy with it so far. About 2 weeks ago, I booted to a corrupt file. So I decided that, since I have Windows 64 that I'd finally get around to installing it. After running into problems with the WiFi drivers (it was missing sseay.dll) and not having sound, I decided to go to XP Pro with SP2.

I was able to get all the drivers working (thank you optendo!!) except one. This is when my real issue started. Apparently the video drivers were locking the PC whenever I tried to play any DX9 game (EQII, WoW, The Sims 2). After many changes to the drivers (I used ATI's default drivers, Omega's drivers, etc), each time I'd get the same results.

At this point, I had reinstalled XP Pro 2 more times. No effect. Fortunately for me, I had kept the recovery partition and I had the recovery disc. I reinstalled XP Home. Before I updated the video drivers (to Omega 6.1) I turned on System Restore. Same thing. Video locks up for about 5 seconds, then it's fine for about a minute. This repeats about 3 or 4 times until the game locks completely up.

Rolled the system back, tried the Gateway drivers dated from 11/8/2005 (funnily enough, after installing them, they were dated 6/15/2005) . Same exact thing as above. So at this point, I'm stuck with the default video drivers, as they're the only ones that seem to work.

Any ideas? Any thoughts? I'd really appreciate any comments. Thanks to everyone.

Only thing I can think of is to look at how you are installing the drivers. If you put the thing to factory condition and it doesnt work theres either a problem with the drivers/how you are installing them--- or some deeper problem with the machine.

I'm certain it's not the way I'm installing them. As I use the same installer I use with all of my computers. So, at this point, it must be a hardware issue. Guess I'll be calling Gateway...
