Picked up 7515 on sale yesterday! Ended up with one with the faster hdd! woot!
sorry, had to get that out :D

Ok, I knew from reading the forums that the cpu would throttle down to save power consumption/heat emmision but I thought that was only when running on the battery. Mine is doing it while connected to an outlet as well. Was I mistaken, or should it be doing this?

I had the same problem before. After I reformatted and installed WinXp Pro I discovered that it was the AMD CPU Power driver that has this issue. Since I wanted maximum performance at all times I simply did not install the AMD CPU Power driver. I don't know if this is good/bad idea but I now get 2.6Ghz all the time. (I don't care about battery life, I don't travel, it was mainly a desktop replacement)

There's no real point to making it run full bore all the time, though, when it doesn't actually need to. The clock speed throttles up and down depending on usage and you will always get the amount of performance you require while it's plugged in. What's the point of burning your processor at 2.6GHz when you're just running WinAMP and Firefox?

To stop throttling on AC you should be able to just change the Power Properties to 'Always On'. This will help alleviate problems with badly written time dependant programs like some games or encoders.
