i just bought the mx7515 (athlon 64 4000) from future shop in canada for $1399 / $1599 after taxes. i still havent taken it out of the box because i wanted to do some more research on it first. i was reading about all of the problems with the emachines notebooks from this same line with the cracked hinge problems and so on. im just wondering if these have been fixed for the MX7515??

im worried because the pictures i've seen of these cracks looks exactly like the picture on the box of the one ive bought. i am really wondering if my best option now would be to just return the thing instead of going through this sending it back in every couple of months for new hinges that some people have had to do.

also, is there a better notebook option for around 1400 canadian that someone could recommend if this one is still a problem?

    thanks

They've been using that shell for several models. From what I've read, they've addressed the hinge problem. A number of people have older units that are out of warranty and have not gotten them fixed(although I've read of several on another forum who did get theirs repaired out of warranty).

Frankly...I don't see people having problems with the hinges on the newer ones anywhere near the level of the old ones. Every laptop model will have some users experience hinge problems, but I think that Arima has resolved the design issue.

Lots of those machines shared the same chassis. Since they changed the screw mounts inside the the plastic or something(there's a million threads on this, you can search to see how it was resolved), it hasn't reared it's head near the same level.

I think the problem has been solved since November of 2004.
