Hey I just formatted my computer including the D: drive with the recovery files. After installing XP Pro SP2, i found that my computer is slower than before. Whenever I open IE, it takes a little longer than usual and when i press a link to a popup, that also takes a while.

I installed all the drivers already from the recovery cd that came with the laptop and also windows updates. Is there something that Im missing???

And the cd drive seems slower too. When i put in a cd, it takes longer for it to load the autostart than before. Is there a driver for the cd/dvd rom?

Oh yeah Norton Internet Security really slows down my computer when starting up, just to let you guys know.

Is it slow only when your not plugged in? If so I would recommend going to your power settings and putting it on "Always on".

Also what did you format the drive to? (NTFS or FAT32) I would recommend NTFS

Optendo is right, for larger HDDs NFTS is the best format. For smaller HDDs (like recovery partitions), FAT32 is faster. Thats why Flash memory is FAT32.

I just did a regular format, dont really know if its NFTS or FAT32. And its slow when im plugged in. When I mean slow its not the whole computer thats lagging, its just certain things like IE and when you press a link that opens in a new window for that second it freezes the computer and then it opens.

Also I cant install the AMD Powernow driver after installing XP pro with SP2. Does it really matter?

I am not familiar with XP Pro but it really sounds like a software issue. It's not too likely that the hardware did not just "start" slowing down. Check your internet settings and your Norton. Norton may be checking every web page that you open or you firewall could be configured funny.

I had a problem with mine switching from DMA to PIO. Run a google search for information and solutions.

Apparently windows switches to PIO after 6 read errors. You should check it out.
