is has the X600 chip in it which will get you by. its not a super chip, think of it like the x300's bigger brother. it may have 256MB of ram, but the GPU wont take advantage of it. if you can get your hands on an X700, you'd be better off with newer games. but the X600, X300 will play older games fine

It really depends on what settings you plan to run it on. I'd say that it is a very decent gaming machine.. especially for it's price :)

can u special order this laptop with a different card in it? Do all the cards come intergrated? Will i be able to game for a while with it, i mean im not a hardcore gamer but i still like to play them.

I have a HP 1ghz 396ram geforce3 grphx card, desktop pc, so im hoping to find something with better graphics than it.

Lynx, You can but you have to do it through the website. That is per the gateway rep. He gave me the online version model # but I can't find it. There you can adjust diff things..... Per ther rep that is.

Actually, Gateway no longer carries this model (only through retail). They do have a new 15.4" that is comparable. One has a Pentium M (not quite as 'zippy' as the AMD, but much more efficient) with an ATI X600, the other having dual core options with an ATI X1400 ( slightly better than the X600).
BestBuy does have the dual core Gateway (currently sold out online) with an X1400 for about $1,500. I am considering this as a replacement for my 7426.
    Good luck!
