Hey, I just recently purchased a Gateway MX7525. It is still sitting in it's box and now after reading a few topics about broken hinges for other models and the like on this forum. I am quite nervous about keeping it. I would appreciate it greatly if someone with this machine can verify if the machine does have a hinge issue or not.

Also if possible, considering I'm not sure about the video card, the x600, it is 128 meg onboard and the other 128 is drawn by the systems ram?

    Thanks for all the information.

Mine has hinge tension issues.. but mine is an older model. The discussion of broken hinges has greatly died over time. That says to me that they have finally resolved it, or people have stopped caring (the cracking is only cosmetic). I would keep it. It is the fastest machine at BestBuy. I do not want you to follow only my word though. I would rather you wait for more comments, so if anything does go wrong, I don't feel guilty :D
And yes, you are correct on the video card. You can also take away from the ram borrowed from the system. I'm not quite sure how though.
Remember that the return policy is 14 days.

If you have concerns about quality maybe you should get the BB 3year Service plan....you can buy it now and return it later (getting the remaining cash back) if you don't want it anymore and covers additional issues that base warranty does not.
Also if you bought it at BestBuy it should come with a 5400RPM hard drive instead of the 4200RPM in specs.
I own a MX7515 (same as yours but with less videomemory) and my only problem was USB2 performance, besides that is a rock solid performer....no hinges problems in 4-5 months.
I would also recommend keeping it....good luck.

I don't think you can return it at any time, you have to have 3 fault repairs before BB considers it a 'Lemon' and offers a replacement of equal performance without exceeding price.
    Unless I'm mistaken...

actually its on the 4th time that you get replacement under no lemon. I havent heard any hinge issues with newer models, and as well... only some machines come with 5400rpm, not all from BB

Well, yes. I meant that you have had 3 repairs already and BestBuy confirms another need for repair, so yeah, the 4th problem :D
And, judging by others, It's safe to say that the machine is a keeper :)

I was talking about returning the Service Plan...if you return it the second year, you get the remaining year (3rd) back.
No Lemon policy is like said before....after the 3rd problem/repair they give you a new one.

Hellman's description is more accurate though. It's not just "after the 3rd problem/repair"....it's on the fourth confirmed issue. I.E., it's been worked on 3 times(actual physical repairs confirmed...not sent out and returned "working fine, software issue"), comes in for a 4th problem...sent out and confirmed to be a problem, then the no-lemon is issued. Some stores will go ahead and let you swap at the time the Geek Squad desk confirms it needs to go out for the 4th repair...but the service plan agreement stipulates that the insurance company doesn't issue the no-lemon policy until the 4th hardware problem has been confirmed(usually at a service center).

Sometimes stores will bend the rules...but don't expect it.

I recently turned my emachines 6805 in to Best Buy for defective hinge repair. After a few weeks they finally said they didnt have the parts to fix it and let me get a coparable notebook. I said I wouldnt take anything with only shared memory for the video (the emachines had a 9600 with 64k). I was able to get an mx7525 which cost less than the original emachines and the extra money was applied to another Best Buy warranty. First time an extended warranty has paid off for me.

I've had my 7510GX since frigging August 2005 and its hinges are a-okay (albeit a little looser with age).
