Try upgrading your USB/Chipset drivers....
http://support.gateway.com/support/...pset DriverVersion: 5.10.1000.4&uid=120568375
Many others had the same problem and with this driver it got somehow solved...AFAIK Dazzle is USB2 capable, so it's not a device related problem.
Don't expect very good performance though, this line of laptops has poor USB speed. If you can use Firewire, go for it....specially if it's for video transfers/editing.

I too recently bought a MX7525--and I have the same USB 2.0 problems.
I'm running an external drive at 480 mps--which is good as long as it lasts--which is about 3 minutes before the system "dumps" to conventional USB at a throughput of 1.5 mps. Very big difference.
Support from Gateway is virtually non-existant--they've said try reinstalling windows and see what happens. Uh-huh, sure. I've asked "have others had similar problems?" No, haven't heard of any. Uh huh, sure.
Then I asked can't I just get a driver from you?
Answer is no. "The computer is new--so you'll have to wait until a whole bunch of consumers have the same problem before we put a download/update on our site."
I tried the AMD chipset reload as mentioned by computer geek. Doesn't seem to fix the problem.
By the way, my controller reports there are 8 usb ports--but physically there are only 4 actual ports on the computer.
Microsoft's knoweldge base reports the error as being attributable to USB 2.0 mismatch which the controller hardware. -
It's a really long story...but it's supposed to be a USB voltage problem, this laptop is lacking power to perform as it should in terms of USB throughput. You can try sending it for repairs if you can convince them that there is something wrong (saying "it's slow" is diffcicult to prove)
BTW 480Mbps (Mbits) is only nominal throughput, real life throughput should be around 11-13MB/s (~100Mbit/s) for this laptop...others can do over 25MB/s (~200Mbit/s).
Your 1,5MB/s dump is near USB1.1, maybe you should try reinstalling the ATI chipset driver from GW support page.
If you can go Firewire, do it, it solved my problems....it's even better that USB2 performing well. -
Yeah--I've heard the voltage thing--and I made a point of getting self-powered devices because of this. There should be a way to "override" the USB dump if there's a power allocation isssue--I just can't figure it out.
The only thing that seems to work for a while is to reinstall the drivers whenever I need the throughput increased. But, inevitably, the port "fails-over" to USB 1.1--and I do the thing all over again. -
If it constantly fails and dumps to USB1.1 then you should try and send it for repairs...mine (and many others) only works at half speed, always.
I use self powered devices and the problem remains, I even powered my USB hub w/o speed increase...now it does not disconnect, but I switched to Firewire anyway.
MX7525 USB trubles...
