I tend to make backup copies of children movies for my son so instead of using my old XP desktop, I decided to use DVDShrink on my new laptop.

First noticed that DVDShrink required Nero to burn so I tried installing Nero 6.0 from my desktop. That failed as it was not compatible with Vista.

I went to the Nero website and downloaded the trial version (I think its compatible as I did not get any errors during installation).

Anyway, the disk copy went as usual. Did not get any errors or anything........I then inserted the backup copy into my DVD player and the movie started from chapter 2  ...it would then skip to chapter 4, etc. Wouldnt even pull up the main menu either. It was if as the the disk did not read the IFO's properly during the copy process.

So I decided to use another movie (Incredibles)....same process and no errors. End result was the same thing.

I then used DVDShrink on my desktop with the same movie and made a third copy. This time this copy played on my DVD player like a charm.

i)So after 2 disk failures, is my laptop drive bad?
ii) DVDShrink doesnt work under Vista?

Another thing I noticed after 2 disk copies, my laptop stopped responding to commands. Explorer wouldn't come up, start menu wouldn't get populated ,etc, which all pointed to low memory errors. I rebooted the laptop and everything went back to normal.

Third question, is the major memory leak with Vista? With 3GRam on this laptop, I dont think Vista should run out of system resources with just 2 DVD copies

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

If you use Nero you need to download the Vista Compatable version, which it looked like you did. I have mixed results with DVD Shrink, I would spend 29.99 and get DVDfab platuim, I have been able to backup any dvd I have no problems, even on my FX

Throw Nero in the trash, very buggy, I still own a copy but find other programs for free. Use Shrink along with ImgBurn by UK Lightning. This is the best ISO Video-TS burning software in town.

As flynnaz, DVDfab or ripit4me and/or AnyDVD by subscription, your choice.

Well....the thing is DVDShrink, it actually asks for Nero as the burning media. It doesn't give me the choice to browse to other apps instead of Nero

NV....found an option in DVDShrink to unselect Nero as the burning software.......downloading ImgBurn right now.

Will give that a shot again.

Yea, old shrink is showing the years but still useful..

BTW, if anyone needs a Vista compatible ISO mounter, the makers of Anydvd makes the free Virtual CloneDrive.

This thread is a total failure

I went back to my desktop and checked the DVDShrink settings and then compared to my laptop.....they were wayyyyy off! The "Output Files" and "I/O" tabs were missing most of the important ripping stuff.

I added those options and tried again. Burned the same 2 movies side to side and both of them played fine on my PS3 this time. I should have checked those settings before posting my lame thread...well if anybody has similar issues with DVDShrink, this thread can be helpful.

And my stupid postal man still hasn't delivered my HDMI switcher, cables, to my mailbox yet that I ordered from monoprice a week back so there goes of doing a perm setup for my laptop to my Projector.

Also, I found my crashes/memory leak related to this: Under device manager, I found something called "Teredos Pseudo-Interface" was errored out. After googling it and finding a fix, I did a 'update driver' and did a scan on my system and Vista found a MS driver and installed it ...it still couldn't start the device but now it said "MS Tun Miniport". I disabled it and so far, I've been running my laptop like a lion who just had a deer for breakfast.

    Vista sux ;) .

And thanks for the responses too.

Old DVD decrypter, also by Lightning UK, will fail on my new backups, it is no longer supported but still work here and there.

Frag ,once you get your machine sorted out, shrink will work fine.

FWIW, no issues on my machine, all works but yes Vista is not ready for prime time, but I'm patient.
