Hello,
I just bought a E-475M for school and the fingerprint reader does not work.
The UPEK software pops up and asks you to enroll a finger, but when I select that option it gives me an error No biometric device detected. Connect or enable the device (something real close to that).
I went into device manager and according to it, the fingerprint reader is working properly and is enabled.
So, I called Gateway and spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support. I got nowhere. The guy I talked to said hes never had this problem before. We tried disabling, enabling the device. Reinstalling the drivers for it. Tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling the software. NOTE: When I went to reinstall the software I was getting some install error and setup wouldn't run till the second time I restarted my pc. That still didn't work.
The tech guy said he'd forward the problem to somebody Tuesday and get back to me.
Anyhow, the impatient guy that I am, wiped the entire system and started from scratch. I reinstalled Windows, the applications that came with the computer, and then put back on UPEK Protector Suite QL and I got the same error.
I am clueless. Is it possible the reader itself is bad? Driver issue you think? Gateway said they usually work no problem.
Thanks,
