Hey guys,
I was just wondering if there is a huge disparity between the gtx 260M and the 9800m GTS, as I'm debating whether to wait for the fx 7915u, or just go ahead with the 7809u...they look like they have the same specs, except for the graphics card. I know that the 260 is based on the same chip and has higher clock speeds, but I've seen tests on notebookcheck where the GTS actually out performs it...I can get the 7809 for about the same price as the 7915, but the only things holding me back are this question and the unability to upgrade the ram in the 7809...what do you guys (and possibly owners of the 7809) think? Thanks in advance!

The 260GTX is more powerful than the 9800GTS, not by such a large margin that its mind blowing though. It gets a bit better numbers than the 9800GTX so i would put it 7-10precent over the 9800GTS.
As to your RAM question the RAM is upgradeable, but unless you just need 8GB of ram its a bit of a waste of money (unless you want to to upgrade to 1333mHz ram, then i'm not sure if it will run at 1333mHz or down clock to 1066mHz) -
Hmm ok, well the main reason that I'll be using this computer will be for Wow, Guild Wars, and Guild Wars 2, which I think they'll both (7915 and 7809) run without a big discrepancy...I may also dabble into Crysis and some other pc exclusives, would there be any huge difference there??

Either GPU should be able to play those games with out much issue. The 260GTX will give you a bit higher minimum frames per second during the really intense times, but neither one will really suffer from stuttering from any of those games.
My 6860 with the 8800GTS plays guild wars just fine with most all of the eye candy turned all the way up. -
This Nvidia re branding crap is confusing to say the least, but its a 9800m GT with 112 shader processors instead of the 96 the 9800m GT has. The 9800m GTS has 64, so this is quite a difference and will make a somewhat decent jump in frames per second.
Honestly with those games your playing either card will max them fine(maybe not crysis, check out the reviews in my sig for 8800m GTS benchmarks, same as the 9800m GTS). Either way it will be fine, I personally would push for the model with the 260m GTX though, and wait it out. The GPU is one of the only things that usually cannot be upgraded, so get the most powerful one available to you and your set. -
Hey cmon guys, you are forgetting that we will be gaming at 1440 X 900. No NOTICEABLE difference at all.

Not everyone. What if he has a monitor? Or upgrades the screen?
But yeah, I'd probably go with the 260. You'll get a little more time with it than the 9800. -
I don't get the debate... Same price, why would you not get the best gpu available????!!!!!!!!!!!!! besides games now might max on the 9800m GTS at 1400x900 but what about next year and the next?
Like narsnail said, you can't upgrade your gpu so get the best one u can at the time!!!
mew must just be a little envious of the more powerfull gpus coming out to say something like that... -
Yes, I'm envious at the 6 month new breakthrough GPU that Gateway has masterfully fit into a 17 inch chassis. Soon, I will be pooing all over my pants when the nuclear-powered ATI 5000 series hit the market.
