I know, a stupid question, but neither searching here in the forums, nor google gave me a "chapter and Verse" answer.
I made a clean install of Vista (from the recovery CD) after installing a Vertex SSD (all works fine). Applied all the drivers that where mentioned here, but one (actually 2) seems to be missing:
the "Mass Storage Controller"
Could some please be so kind and guide me to where to download it fromand secondly, what is it for? Is it the Raid driver?
Second thing that seems to be missing, I can't use the multimedia buttons above the keyboards anymore (not that they where very usefull so far, but none the less). What driver would that be?
And while I am asking stupid questions, here is one more:
Before the reinstall of Vista I had in the Windows performance test a 5.8 for my CPU, now after the reinstall I have 5.2. Everything else staying equal.
I know the performance test is not the world, none the less, I might have forgotten to turn something on/off?
Many many thanks !![]()

It's under Motherboard downloads:
http://support.gateway.com/support/...wse&platform=10022&model=12253&os=11271&type=
It should work. -
Thanks,
I did install the matrix controllers, but the device manager still showed missing "Mass storage controller"..... -
I get this too on my P-6860FX. I installed all the essential drivers from the restore disc, but this little guy always pops up. I just ignore it, as it doesn't seem to affect anything...
Though I'd still like to know exactly what it is, if anyone knows! -
Just install all the drivers provided by Gateway then. The issue was solved on my part by doing that after a fresh install of Vista.
-
On the 6860 it's the Silicon Image eSATA controller (driver available on Windows Update). On the 7811 it's the Intel eSATA controller (driver built into Intel Chipset driver package).

The Mass Storage Controller is the media reader.
If you haven't noticed it, it's because you aren't using the SD slot. The SD slot will not work without the media reader drivers installed.
The multimedia buttons should be software, not drivers (It is not a device).
Installing ALL the drivers on the gateway website is a waste, you will install newer drivers OVER older drivers and vice-versa, that is not a good idea.
Since you got a vertex you should register and read many of the stickied threads on the OCZ forum.
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=186
Mainly the tweaks/tips (Disabling indexing, superfetch, lastaccess timestamp, 8dot3namecreation, etc..)
You should also be sure to enable Write-Back Cache and Advanced Performance.
Did you install the Chipset drivers already? That will contribute to your WEI processor score, and so will write-back cache. -
@ globalthreatsk: thanks.
jip, the OCZ-Forum is by now my home
All tweaks applied.
I will check for the Mass storage Driver then.
Many thanks! -
yea media driver worked, for some reason i thought i already installed it, but i guess not cuz its good to go now thanks a bunch
