I just bought the 7508GX, and I was wondering what the max amount ram I can put in it. Also a Gateway tech told me that there is only one slot for ram. Is this true? It came with 1gig of pc2700. I wanted to up grade the ram to pc3200, but he said that the other 512 was built in to the motherboard! If some knows please in form me. Thanks!

There is one slot on the bottom of the laptop and then the other slot for ram is on the inside, underneath the keyboard. Here is a good site for guides to gateway/emachine notebooks. http://emachines.fizi.ca/guides.php?ID=3 This one is for the ram specifically.
    Good luck.

remember that replacing the inside chip will void your warranty if gateway finds out.

Who cares if you void your warranty. If you read closely...putting on windows xp pro or any operating system other then what the computer comes with will void your warranty. I can garuntee everyone here has pretty much voided their warranty. Thats why you get a service plan when you buy this thing. First off, it covers the battery which you know is going to go bad within 18 months (life expectancy of any lithium recharchable battery). Second, it covers the less then stellar quality that gateway uses to make their products.

    I was just giving warning. I didn't say I have/haven't voided my warranty.... ;)

I just want to make sure he knew and if he has to send it out for a repair just make sure to replace the ram with the original one. Much luck, takes some pictures and post how you did it.

Thanks guys! I looked at it and I plan on doing it anyway. To bad it didn't come with 3200 DDR in the first place! Also since you guys know how to do it, then you probally know what the max amount ram is I can put in the 7508GX, Right?

I am guessing 2 gigs of ram (two 1 gig sticks). That is what emachine/gateway have been doing for most of their machines. I know they advertise 1.5 gigs expecting no one to mess with the inside slot. But yah I am pretty sure you can ge 2 gigs total.

Sorry I have not changed the inside ram slot. I have only replaced the one outside slot because all I could afford was one 1gig stick. If you do try and do it please post pictures for us to see ;)
