I own a Gateway FX P-7805U laptop. It has a sensitive touch media bar. Something has happened to the volume control. It looks like it is damaged around the side that lowers the volume. Now it is constantly lowering the volume. I can not make it stop. Is there any way to disable the media bar on my lappy? please help!!

68 views and zero suggestions, is there no hope for me...? I really do not want to have to take it to the shop or geek squad for something that could be so easy.

I know there are some reg entries, can't remember them of hand if those were for the volume, I think they were for the fast launch only.............

You might want to lift the media bar and inspect for smashed cable or check if plug not seated. The instructions are in the sticky. You may find a replacement bar on fleabay as the shop cost might get scary if all else fails.

I bought the same media bar for $20 on eBay. Never heard of that issue, but its not an awful fix.

After taking it to Geek Squad and hearing them tell me i need to pay them another 300 bucks for another year of tech support, since mine is expired, I started to remove the media bar, but stopped once it was tilted upwards. I did not want to remove the ribbon. I hit it with some air and then closed it up. So far i think it might have helped. Waiting for the reboot to finish, but it might have just been a pinched wire.

Dude never go to GeekSquad and those places, they just want a ton of money for things that you don't need. I rather recommend to a local repair shop. Also if you fix the problem keep us informed.
