The sequential read/write speeds for that drive are pretty low, I can't imagine what the random read/write speeds are..

Do they have to be on another physical disk, or can they just be on another partition on the same disk?

You have tons of options, drive quality and speed will depend on your budget.

Considering that the real-world performance of the 7200.2 (the HD used in the 78XX) is only around 50/50MB/s...

That SSD should be equal or faster.

I'm personally waiting for the next set of MiniPCIe SSDs to come out.

True and good point but why not use a SATA SSD that will be much faster than the PCI-E SSD?

That is very true. Problem is, SATA SSDs are ridiculously expensive right now.

I myself am thinking about getting that very same drive to run my documents, page file, and readyboost off of. If I get the bigger one, I may just run Vista off of it too.

That way my is covered when the inevitable failure of the HD comes.

Oh and most importantly, the real reason is, it's just another toy and just allows us to make use of that blank mini PCIe slot :D!

Thats where the problem with the low random read/write speeds comes in.

See that is why I was asking around is I was mostly worried about how thick they are and the performance they give. Plus, you have to admit running one of these plus two SSDs would just be pimp...

I don't believe you can boot off of miniPCIe also @rfvijn do to horrible random writes your desired usage would not be ideal. Those tiny writes are what these cheap drives have problems with if hit with a couple at a time.

Your open slot is only a "half" mini PCI-E so those won't fit unless you put them in the "full" length slot where your wireless card currently resides. You can get a half length 5100 or 5300 wireless card but they aren't all that cheap. And as Mormegil says you probably can't boot off it, if you just want to use it as storage it'd probably work, but it wouldn't be all that great, you can get a junk SSD for around the same price that probably wouldnt be any worse (OCZ Core/etc)
