OK, so last night I bought an MX7515. I brought it home, charged it up, formatted it clean. So for the past 4 hours, I've been trying to get XP Pro to recognize it. I got a couple of downloads from the tech guy, but none of them made the wireless card appear. Under the device manager it says "Network Controller" with a giant yellow exclamation over it. How can I make it recognize the card!!!

I had a hell of a time as well, but managed to finally get the broadcom driver here:
http://blackimperial.com/home/?page_id=13
However, according to the specs, the driver may be this one.

Just use blackimperial ones, I had the EXACT same problem and only this driver did the job....It's working OK for 4 weeks by now.
Also try downloading omega drivers for the x600 graphics....nice performance.

Well, I tired both the broadcom and intel drivers and none of them work. This is on xp sp2 professional. Gateway also hasn't listed any wireless drivers on the support page, wtf?
I've been fighting this pos for 2 days now. Any ideas? Thanks. -
ok, gateway support tells me they don't support xp professional?? They told me another broadcom driver to try (9528158.exe) and another calexio intel driver. No luck. So is it just my face or what did I do different from the other folks who got this working? I installed xp sp2 pro and the 6 drivers from the support gateway site. Anyone?
Also the wireless indicator doesn't glow on the laptop. I guess this is because the OS is not recognizing the wireless card? -
The light's not on? Did you do the keystroke to enable the wireless card? I'm not sure if it'll show when the driver's not working...but I assume it would regardless. It's Fn + F2 on my 8510GZ.

Got the sucker. The broadcom recovery driver works. Hopefully, this should spare the next guy from wrestlinhg with this b***h
Gateway support, instead of providing the driver, lectured me why I shouldn't install 'unsupported' OS?? well, FU. need to get your act together @SSWP (guess, I need to go sleep) -
Hey I'm having the same issue!
And yes, Gateway support is useless...all they did was try to get me to buy their cd for $20.
Which Broadcom recovery drivers are you referring to?
-
Well, I don't blame them for not supporting it. If they never loaded that driver on in that OS to test...how would they know? As a corporate entity, I wouldn't want to get into supporting something I haven't personally tested. So I don't see how this is their fault.
-
Well I was never told the drivers were not supported.
I specifically told them I wiped the partition and loaded winXP PRO and they never said it was unsupported.
They wanted to sell me a CD for $20 that they stated had the drivers on it.
When I asked them if the drivers off their website is the same, they never commented on that.
If that's how you support things, then I feel sorry for those who have contact you for help.

8700 above stated that Gateway support told him they don't support XP Pro on that model. That's where my comment was directed.
As for your last statement...I can't even begin to contemplate how you came to that. I'm not sure if you're being snide or just plain stupid. I made a comment on how it'd be inappropriate for them to support drivers on a OS version they haven't tested. How is that unreasonable? If they tried to help you and it didn't work, they could easily be accused by you of "damaging" your system or providing incorrect information.
Many years ago, when I worked in the IT sector, I was employed by a large national telecom. I worked on their helpdesk for internal support. We never, ever supported anything but two specific OS revisions. Especially since we had contract employees who used computers that weren't provided by our company. If they used a non-authorized OS, we couldn't help...cause any changes we did might affect something else on their system...and we couldn't risk being held liable.
The same issues apply to Gateway's support team. They're trying to minimize their risk and it makes perfect sense to me. -
I have to agree with you on this one. They may have been rude about it, which is an entirely different matter, but they cannot be experts on every operating system out there. And I realize that XP Pro is by no means a stretch but the fact is that they have to draw the line somewhere.
-
whoa. ok, what I was talking abt was xp home and xp pro is really the same code-base (unlike say Win ME and NT). At least that's what I heard at a M$ forum. But ok, XP home is supported, but where's the wireless driver for XP home? btw, I was also given the standard template reply of using the recovery disk. Ha!*crazy laughter*. Anyway, I'm glad I don't have to call gateway and listen to more mindless nonsensical drivel.
Iron, in case you haven't already, you can get the recovery driver at
http://blackimperial.com/home/?page_id=13. This was mentioned in the prev posts. Also I got the synaptec touchpad driver by searching on the gateway site. It's not listed for MX7515 but maybe you won't need it. Ok, happy new year, folks and lay off the coffee. -
Tullnd...Ok my apologies...was having a bad morning at fighting with the laptop drivers wasn't helping...
But thanks to Blear and 8700 I was able to get the recovery drivers to work as well!!
Thanks to you all and again, my apologies tullnd.
