First post here so I'll be brief.
I'm considering a purchase of the Gateway 7422GX soon, but I can't seem to locate any useful data on the ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 it has inside of it.
Google hasn't come up with jack on it, ATI doesn't offer info at their site, and I'm really curious to get some info or real benchmark data for current games or 3D work.
If anyone has info or specific links about this video chip I'd really appreciate it if you could share (and I'm sure other potential 7422GX buyers would also).
Thanks!
Paul

I have the 7422 and in device manager it says it is
a 9700/9600 ati. The word on the street is that it is
either a 9700 underclocked or a misprint by gateway.
I have no complaints with mine.

Here are the exact spec's of the 7422GX notebook under the hood, with the 9600 (aka 9550) ATI GFX card installed. This data was pulled using the ATI Adaptor Information Tool, from ATI. Inc.

The lines posted are verbatim of the GUI from the hardware (9550)

There has been alot of questions as to why the 7422GX has a 9550 Card.
The 9550 is the an agreed term used by ATI and Gateway for the instalation of this card in the 7422GX. The card is a 9600 Radion with Mobility (notebook term (MOBILE)). The 7422GX is a non gateway factory (build for factory sale) retail notebook under license to be sold thru other retail locations other than thru the direct sales channel of gateway.
It is not uncommon for an O.E.M such as ATI to re distribute a product such as the 9600 Radion, in a product such as the 7422GX notebook and then re-(code) it. Microsoft XP OS calls it a 9600/9700 in its system report. I would not rely on this however...
Now its being called a 9550, but you also see specs calling it a 9600/9700. Why?... who knows. All I can say is that when I owned Cyclone 3D Systems Of Phoenix, we did this with some of the Intel Chips we installed, (33mhz 66hmz). This helped us and the O.E.M. track problems from time to time with just (one model of a system for sale), It also let us keep our product lines more tailored for our own internal Q.C.Departments.
The one thing to remember is that this card is "special" for the 7422GX. And it is a very good card. Overclocks very very well and runs the 64Bit Xp system we are now testing for Microsoft just fine!
Nothing we are throwing at 1 of the 5 systems we are running (the 64 Bit system) has failed. It seems to render video with liquid 6 very well. The video card is not a week link as far as we can tell.
The only week link we can see is with the Hard Drive... But that also is a Kit that can be upgraded...
The 7422GX seems to be a very rock solid notebook and very well priced compared to other laptops out on the market for what's under the hood...
The ATI 9600 Chipset seems to be a very well matched unit for this dedicated video card notebook computer!
Hope this helps[]

This seems like a misprint with Gateway or Arima. It is a 9600 like in all the other Gateway 74xx and Emachines 68xx series. It's clocked the exact same as the 9600 in these notebooks, 200/300. ATI doesn't even list a Mobile 9550 on thier site.

Licensing has a way about these things.
