mobilenvidia has done a mod for our Gateway 6860 but they are note working on my laptop. I can suppose that i have not reinstalled my OS for a year and i have installed SP2 and its working like bad now. Try and install them at your laptop.

If note we must give some kind of support to finish this mod and make these drivers work.

Gateway support are not bothering abut updating drivers ate there official site so we must do there job for what they are paid to do.

I will upload later the inf and i will try to do some modifications to work better.

    +1 for your efforts!

Keep up the good work on modding the IDT Sigmatel driver. I've poked around with it myself and gave up way to soon. When you finalize it I look very much forward to you posting it either here or at laptopvideo2go.

BTW, the microphone, does it work (when you get it fixed up anyway)?

    I will post the INF

If you have any other post them here and we can compare them a do a better one.

I don't have a external mix to try it out.

I will do a Guide how to install the drivers tonight. but for now if you have 64bit os and you what to have control panel at sys tray you have to install the drivers like it follows>>

Remember to remove the old driver from you PC.

    Link for Driver

    http://files.laptopvideo2go.com/audio/idt_6187.0.exe

Remember to overwrite the WRT.ini at WDM folder with the WRT.ini that i have modded in order to work properly.

Manager>device Manager> Sound, video and game controller> IDT High Definition audio> Update Driver Software> Browse MY computer for Driver Software> Let me pick from a list of device on my computer > Have Disk >>

Now go to the your location where is the setup is located, the you will see WDM folder. GO in there and chose STWRT64.INF for 64 bit OS. it will promote that the drivers is now certified and blla balla go and install it. restart the PC and it should work

As for 32 bit just run the setup after you uninstall the old driver just in case cause (i did it without uninstalling and it worked) and it should fork fine. :p

Thats great that you have gotten the modified drivers to actually work with out a code 10 lol... just that I have been trying to get the mic array working in Windows 7... it worked fine with the 5939 drivers and that driver was good enough for me... I just cant seem to figure out how to get it to work, as well as the Hotstart buttons in Windows 7... not major deals, but annoying nonetheless... any ideas?

This is the link\driver\mod I have used successfully in the past. Now the link to the Intel driver is only 2 hundredths higher (version number) and the current link actually links to a newer version of the Intel driver that no longer works with the modded inf's but I have the 'originally' posted link to the Intel driver the modded inf was written for.

    helps maybe\maybe not.

It works you just have to go at sound options at control panel>Recording and set Integrated Microphone Array as default Device ONLY and Microphone/line-in as Default communication device ONLY in order to work when you plug in an external MIC.

This is it. i guess i have my hunt is correct :p

Yes, something has changed from the last driver. it could be the INF format or something else.
since i have got these drivers to work i'm a bit lazy to work again but i will take a look. i am not satisfied with this si it could be better especially if gateway provide us with a proper driver.

and yes at gateway are 2 drivers and the inf is different in a way. they don't work with each other.

josmol how do ou thing the driver is working.

OK - so - here's what I did and the results.

Since I'm running Vista x86 I downloaded the IDT driver, grabbed your inf, dropped it and overwrote the appropriate file, uninstalled my old driver, rebooted, installed the new driver with setup, rebooted, and after telling the sound applet in control panel which mic to use the sound works and the mic works. the sound icon in system tray still has a red x next to it but all sound\recording options work fine.

    EDIT *-
It appears that the IDT control panel is now the master control panel for volume level, etc., and this is why the red x is showing up. No big deal - recording is fine (I rarely use it but I do sometimes record my Sunday morning sermons) and playback of music is fine. Better or worse, I can't tell, I'm not an audiophile by any stretch BUT I am a HUGE FAN of using the latest drivers if possible.

How about x64 installation? When I move to Windows 7 x64 would I just point to the WRT.inf file?

ok so i did everything in the guide that lum-x said and everything works right now. only thing is like what josmol said the sound icon on the tray has a red x on it.so no way for me to tell how loud my speakers are.

another concern for me is checking into control panel>additional options, i now have 2 IDT audio control panel icons. 1 is for "sound reality control panel" kinda like the old options of my driver and the 2nd one is IDT HD sound panel which has some cool new features and options on it.

all in all, great work you guys did on here. +1 rep for the both of you. but is there anyway of fixing that red x icon on the tray? tnx!

I understand that... but are you using Windows 7? I can get it working in vista no problem... but W7 is a different problem altogether...

Yes it will work on VISTA and windows 7 the only problem is when installing it on 64 bit you have to go by my guide.

Today i will do a proper guide how to install drivers on windows 7 64 cause i don't have vista now

as for red X icon i can guess they something might be Muted or something not detected properly. if you can post a screan shoot. :p

    it might help

So i had a similar problem when in installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit - fresh install. P6831 FX. Stock insides. Everything worked except the mic. The sound would randomly unload also sometimes. But I finally got the microphone to work. At least in this boot.

Here is a vague breakdown of what I did.

    1) Force installed my old IDT 5939 driver from gateway's website but windows would crash while loading up drivers.

    2) Ran windows in safe-mode --> rolled it back to win7 driver --> and then just uninstalled all of it. i changed my mind about rolling it back.

    3) Restarted windows normally and it installed the IDT driver automatically. shortly thereafter, windows froze again when i tried to adjust the microphone array settings.

    4) Turned computer off and went into safe-mode again --> uninstalled the IDT driver --> installed the normal windows driver.

    5) Restarted windows and I had two mics listed under "recording devices" After some adjustment of the volume the microphone with a "digital jack," things are working fine now. At least in Ventrilo. There are two microphones listed under my recording devices and I just disabled the one with a "left panel 3.5mm jack." (which is technically on the right side).

Prior to installing the old 5939 drivers, I tried Lum-X's method for Win7-64bit, but it aborted halfway through the install even though i replaced the WDM file.

I have a 6831FX.. Don't know, but maybe some residual microphone drivers stuck around after I played around with it in safe-mode, but it somehow worked.

Hope this helps. Been bashing my head about the poor driver support for the past week.

Thanks for the ideas, but are you talking about getting the mic array to work or the mic jack?

My problem is that I cannot get the mic array to work for the life of me...
