Hey all, I just purchased the 7805 from Bestbuy and i'm loving it. But looking around on this site i've noticed ALOT of people modified there units. So I wanted to see what people have done and where you got your upgrades from.

What im looking to do. And if you have a better idea please say something

    Upgrading processor to the Q9000
Installing 2nd 320 HDD and setting up RAID0
Finding and installing a new Disk drive w/ blu ray.

Maybe switching from Windows Vista to 7?

Some background mostly what im using this for is entertainment and gaming.

Suprised it plays crysis on high with some GPU overclock. But it slows sometimes. wanting to fix that issue also.

    Thanks.

Upgrading to the q9000 is out of the question. With the exception of the 7808 none of the 78xx series support quad cored. P9700 and T9900 are your two top end CPUs for the 78xx.

A RAID will give you a bit faster data transfers. Its nice, but rarely makes a difference. If you want speed you need a SSD. No laptop raid can ever come close to that level of preformance... and you dont have to worry about the FX's really poor hard drive ventilation cooking your RAID Array.

Bluray is pretty personal... i dont see the appeal of a 1080 movie on a 17in screen. On a home theater system where you can actually tell there is a difference its a beautiful thing... but in a 17in laptop its just not that much sharper. But if you want one the go for it, there are a good few that work for the system.

Yeah windows 7 is a good idea. Not much different than vista, but i like it alot better

Bluetooth- oh yeah. I also bought another 320 gig scorpio for raid-0. I like having two disks with the same thing. Call me paranoid.

Ebay for the t9900 there are several sellers with good rep, and only one comment on the bluray, if you have a bluray collection go for it, but there are other ways to watch your hd shows on your laptop.

While this isn't truely an upgrade, you really should replace the stock TIM with a higher quality one to lower the temps. Check out the ICD7 thread.

I bought another matching hard drive and created a RAID 0. I would like to upgrade the CPU but will wait till the T9900 becomes cheaper. As for Windows 7, it's coming in Oct. so I can wait till the finished product is done before I upgrade to Windows 7 which I will.

Yeah I guess the X9100 is the better chip. But we can't overclock it, and whats the point if increasing the internal temperature of the machine if we can't take advantage of the benifits it has over the T9900?
