Just a few questions about the MT3705. If anyone knows any of the answers, that would be appreciated.
Does the internal memory card reader read SD cards above 2 GB, I think theyre called SDHC cards. I could be wrong.
Also, has anyone tried to boot from one of the cards in the reader. I know theres a way to boot from a USB device, but I dont think the internal card reader is connected as a USb internally. I want to try to install Vista to the card after making a Vlite installation. If I cant figure that out,I could use a express card reader, or just use it as a readyboost drive.
Does anyone know if there is an upgrade battery that is compatable with this model, maybe a 8 or 12 cell model. Dont get me wrong, the battery life is great, but your battery can never last long enough. :)
Finally, I know its unlikely, but does anyone know if the VGA port supports TVout thru the use of a simple adapter?
Otherwise, I have been very happy with my purchase of this laptop. My only regret is that I didnt realize how much I really wanted Svideo out when I bought it.

Sorry, I can't really answer your questions, as I don't own the MT3705. I'm seriously considering picking one up, as I don't have a lot to spend but want a mobile notebook. I looked into the replacement batteries since battery life is important to me. It was surprisingly hard to find any. I can't find any websites (INCLUDING Gateway's) that specifically list batteries for this laptop. I ended up digging up a part number (one of several battery part numbers they had listed, actually) off the gateway website and doing a search on that, and found a few on obscure websites. I may end up calling Gateway to see what they can tell me. Perhaps some other Gateway model uses the same battery and it can be ordered that way.

I cant answer any of your questions, im not a computer wiz. but, i also have the mt3705. I love it, but i wish 2 things were different. I wish I had a s-video out like you said and I also wish the effin hard drive was a little faster. its a damn parallel hard drive and its quite slow. but the processor and ram are really fast. ooh, i also wish it had blue tooth. but to grant all of my wishes, i have to cough up probably 300 more dollars, so i aint complainin'.

I wanted to give an update to the battery issue, now that I actually own an MT3705 (about a week). After searching exhaustively on the web and not finding any batteries listed for this notebook, I called Gateway itself and they couldn't tell me where to get an extra standard battery, much less an upgrade. I finally resorted to finding all the part/model numbers on the back of the battery and trying to find batteries which matched on ebay. I've got one on the way that I THINK is the same (it's listed for other retail Gateway's but has the same model number). So, in short, it's not real easy to find one.

I absolutely love this laptop otherwise.

    Yeah,
Finding a battery for this laptop was unreasonably difficult. Let me know if you have luck with the battery you get. Also, if any of you have a chance, see if you can boot from the internal card reader. I dont have any cards, but if they can be booted from I would love to buy the fastest one I can find, & install Windows on the card, and only access the hard drive for large data files. That would really decrease boot and read/write times, plus save battery life.

Ok, this is a complicated situation, but I'll try and not make this too long.

I received my battery off of ebay. It fits just fine, and while the model number is different, it matches one of the model numbers given in the component specification documents for the MT3705 on support.gateway.com. My original battery has the number 6MSBG printed on it at the top left and has the model number SQU-412. Although advertised on ebay as an SQU-412, I received an identically sized battery with 6MSBG in the top left but with the model number 3UR18650F-2-QC-MA1. As I said, Gateway's support documents list that as a possible model number for the stock MT3705 battery, although their docs do NOT list the model numer which actually came with my laptop, SQU-412, which is kind of weird.

After doing some more searching, I realized the 3UR18650F-2-QC-MA1 is also used in a Gateway called the M460 - and I believe 6000 series machines too. I have searched high and low on Gateway's website for an MT3705 compatible battery to no success, but when I looked at M460 batteries, they LOOKED just right.

In short, it looks like the MT3705 is atypical for the 3000 series laptops and was fitted with a battery from higher series of computers. Gateway's site has 6, 8, and 12 cell batteries (ignore the optional, modular battery for the drive bay) for the M460. I'm almost positive the 6-cell is identical. That would mean the 8 and 12 cell batteries could very well work in the MT3705. At some point I'm going to give Gateway another call and find out. Considering I'm already getting at least 3 hours from my 6-cell, a 12-cell would rock.

Can you guys post what your battery model number is?

    ^^

Thanks for your research on the batteries. This makes it easier. I've got a MT3707 coming early next week. A quick goggle search of the part number you supplied turned up this
    http://tinyurl.com/3y72xl

It seems to be a pretty common battery for a lot of Gateway's laptops. Why would they make it so hard to find?

    Bringing up an old thread..

My battery model # matches yours. Any new info on the m460 battery compatibility?
