The mx7525 DVD writer can only burn single layers at 8x. To my knowledge there is no new firmware which would allow you to burn faster. I would suggest to replace the drive if you want a faster burns and beter cache buffer.

Currently with the stock burner, my mx7525 burns at 8x (using nero 7 and or dvddecrypter)

BTW: 16x DVD-R have been out for a while now. :p

    That being said,
Your only options is to use an external 16x burner via the Firewire or a USB2.0 connection.

Dont even try to use external USB2 devices with your 7525 if you expect better performance...there are many posts regarding poor USB performance for this line of laptops. Only Firewire will work OK with this unit.
I changed my enclosures from USB to Firewire just to burn and rip at good speed...everything OK since then.

<<<<--- (Completly Off-Topic) Tor, just a quick question: Can you simply convert a USB device to go thru firewire by way of an adapter or some other method? Thanks.

I have yet to use any other devices besides my mouse with the onboard usb connections. I'm curious to know if the USB problem can be corrected by using a pcmcia USB2.0 adapter instead of the onboard adapters?

Although the Q, was not addressed to me, I not aware nor could I find an adapter, which would convert USB 2.0 to IEEE Firewire.
There is a solution, the http://www.dlinkshop.com/product.asp?sku=2383067&section_id=6 has two upstream ports in the back to accommodate Firewire or USB2.0. The devise allows PC’s without firewire to access firewire devices via the USB 2.0 port or MAC’s without USB to access USB via the Firewire port.

The easy way is to get a PCMCIA USB2 card...it WILL work. But it really depends on what you are connecting to it....for external HDDs and DVD-RW I would recommend Firewire because it delivers better performance in terms of consistent throughput (larger files, movies, audio).
The adapter you found....may work also, but I dont know if a USB connected device would pass through the Firewire interface so you can only use Firewire to your laptop.

Thanks, I am just trying to work around some of this type of thing myself. The USB is not terrible for me but just not incredibly fast.
