My P-6831FX was stolen in Brussels, and I was unable to get an FX to replace it, I am now the proud owner of an ASUS G50VT-X1. I like it very much so far, but I miss my files....

I'll still chime in whenever I know useful stuff here, but I shan't be involved in further FX series adventures.

Sorry to hear about your rig getting stollen. I thought it was all civilized in euroland. Guess there are theiving bas***** everywhere. I hope they catch him eventually.

You might could beg lowjack to track it for you though. the 68xx series has lowjack installed behind the BIOS so its unaccessable to the end user.

If your nice enough and maybe can prove ownership they can track it for you when it logs online

that's not a bad idea....someone did try, unsuccessfully to reset my hotmail password.

EDIT: Says on the lojack for laptops site that they can only utilize the BIOS thing after you install their service.

True, but I'm in Switzerland, and needed to move really fast on getting a new laptop while friends were in America, or be forced to get an overpriced laptop with a CRAZY keyboard layout.

I still love you all, I promise.

Sorry to hear... You can lojack it, rpcnet.exe runs on the system and is built into the bios. It can't be removed... Hopefully you can atleast report it stolen to them.

EDIT:I believe the company is http://www.absolute.com/ I know it's on the 6831 for sure because I tried removing it. Good luck

    again, it won't work.

    From support section:

"My computer was stolen, but I did not install your product. Are you able to assist in Recovery?"

"Unfortunately, if our software was not already installed on the computer prior to theft, we are unable to track it."

I'm sorry to hear that man. I installed the Lojack 90 day trial on my 7811FX and it works great. If it is stolen hopefully it will be traced successfully and recovered.

I'm not sure you need to install the product on a 6831. It's in the bios, if anybody ever bothered to look there is a service that runs once the os is installed. RPCNET.exe and on a 6831 it's always running. I could uninstall it and it would come back, I could disable it and it would turn back on. Also that RPCNET.EXE was always reporting back to "Absolute". Well either way good luck and hope that theif gets caught.

not sure that would work still, from support page:

"If Computrace is embedded in the BIOS of my computer. Do I still have to purchase your service?"

"Yes. A subscription to our service is required. The BIOS agent remains in a dormant state until our LoJack for Laptops software is installed on the hard drive."
