Since the problem has to be [for me] specific to the gateway, I figured I'd ask here.

Problem with installshield, error 5006 [@ 0x8000ffff or something close to it]

I have two original Oblivion discs and tried them both. I've installed successfully Oblivion on other systems I have with Vista x64 or XP with them. On this laptop I've just installed Crysis Warhead after failing with Oblivion and The Witcher, FEAR & STALKER: SoC both installed no problem before Oblivion failed.

I did google to find that the others had this same problem, but the solutions offered were hit&miss.

HELP! Oblivion is my favorite and though I haven't tried it yet I'm afraid I'll find the same problem with Fallout3.

I did get it to work. Where one said to install it from the HDD and another said change a file name... Separately they didn't work and together they did for some stupid reason.

    Try this:

Go into your Programs/Common directory and find the InstallShield directory

Rename the InstallShield directory to somethign like "InstallShield_Old"

    Then Install the game.

This apparantly puts a new version of InstallShield on your computer.
