Just like the title says, I sent in my Fx for repairs, and i suspect that they are gonna replace it rather than repair it.

In the psp (product service plan) it states that if they cant fix it the would replace it.

But since they dont carry the exact same model or new models of the fx that i own, what am i gonna get

and also if im to pick an equivalent from the new laptops that bestbuy do carry, is their anyone that is close to the the fx or better. i bought mine for 1500.

I purposely left out the exact model of mine. But its an Fx.

Please which one should i get, if i have to get a replacement.

The Asus G73 looks like a pretty good alternative.

G73 is amazing... a lot of people are getting rid of their FX's for it, and I understand why. However if you do not game it is overkill. But assuming that you are looking to get a desktop replacement like the FX, the G73JH is the best option.

    I want one.

The only thing is that battery life On the G73 is about 2 hours, while on my FX I can get a little over 3

I am really thinking about having best buy junk out my 6860 for a g73. My x9000 will most likely go into a friends p-173xl fx.

Depending of how much of an db manager you get, they will allow you to pick up a computer that has the same specs as your FX, that is if they dont let you get another laptop for the same price you bought it at!

They usually do it by specs - I've done the junk out twice. Each time though, I got something significantly better because they don't actually care because their insurance company eats the cost, not best buy. My last computer was a sony 15" viao with no discrete graphics and early core 2 duo, ended up with p7805u after they junked it out. My buddy had the same computer (the sony) and ended up with a brand new unibody macbook pro. It's totally their discretion. Sometimes it helps to go in a different time if you get someone unwilling to give you what you want (someone wanted to give me a ty HP retailing for 300 bucks. I just took all my paperwork and left, waited a few days and hoped for a different person. Good thing it paid off by like 1000 dollars lol.

Thank you for all your replies. Now i can look at the asus g73. Is it wrong to feel happy that your lappy died and you may get a new one ?

i think you can renew it for 1 additional year.

not sure about this part, the manufactures warranty still needs to be on.

Yea. Their replacement policy is they will replace it with one of equal value based on original purchase price and (possibly) depreciated value. If the new item costs more you are only responsible for the difference.

I like the G73, but the fact that it has no eSATA or Firewire port is a deal breaker.

Bought there is nothing out there that can compete with it at its price range, and to make matters worse (that bestbuy is carrying right now).

I have not been in the position to ever use esata. but what happend to ethernet ? (gigabit network or cross cable) ?

    Just asking

The presence of a firewire port doesn't necessarily mean anything. Take the FX series. It uses the Agere chipset which is bottle-necked. If you really need firewire, get an ExpressCard with the TI chipset and you will have a true/fast firewire solution.
