During games...I thought it was normal the first time, but I've played on my lap with the bottom completely exposed and it still happens.

I talked to technical support and have done everything they have asked, so I'm trying to get a refund right now.

My question, how easily do you think they'll give the return?

They no longer sell laptops on their website, will they just give me a refund? I'd like to get the newer one at bestbuy any way.

Well, theyll do their own tests first to justify your claim and if they deem that your claim is correct then they will probably try to give you refurb/new one of the same specs and model and if not probably a refund.

download Hardware monitor, and check your temps. It would appear your CPU is overheating, and then being safe and shuttting down.

I would definitely take nars' advice. Do you get a bluescreen at all followed by a reboot, or is it just a plain reboot?

It could also be related to defective power components and/or ACPI. Does the same situation occur when on battery only? Likewise with the battery out on AC?

If it is over heating, its probable a fan is dead, or the heatsink has lost contact with the CPU or GPU.

In either situation, by needing to ask, your best bet will be warranty service. If you bought it through Gateway, the odds of them refunding it are slim to none. Your best bet would be to explain your case to an escalations / customer relations supervisor.

It just turns off completely, not a reboot it just turns off.

The problem is, I don't have enough time for service, I'm going to be at school soon...

It could be Blue Screening despite the appearance of rebooting. Click Start -> Right Click Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings (Left Side) -> Startup and Recovery Settings -> Uncheck automatically restart and save.

Alternatively, you may be able to check the System Log for hardware errors.

Regarding the issue of time and repair. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do besides hope Gateway will accommodate an exchange which will still take time. Gateway is not entitled to replace it in any way if they deem it fixable.

i have experienced this problem before and i can DEFINATELY tell you that your laptop is overheating.. this happens normally when u play high performance games which cause the GPU to go past 85 degrees. i even tried elevating the laptop around the back to try and get some air running underneath it but it still keeps restarting

i was told that the reason for this is that the T-series laptops don't manage heat effectively and tend to overheat rather quickly

    here are a few suggestions.
    1 - buy a cooling pad

2 - try not to overclock ur GPU

3 - the system will usually shut down when it reaches 85-90 degrees. you can configure ur system using NV control panel to not SHUT DOWN when the computer when it reaches 90 but either issue a warning message or EXIT the program when it passes 80 degress (you dont want to go past 80 degrees). this is actually better because it prevents unwanted shutdowns and corruption of system registry files. When ur computer cools off (reaches around 55 degrees) you can resume your game.

note that using that method you should save your game very often to avoid lost data.

also better because it will allow your fans to continue to run and aid the cooling process of the gpu. much like projectors, when you shut them down, you'll notice that the fan keeps running to cool the bulb.

make sure it is off the table or whatever, by atleast an inch or so, and make sure there is some air movement underneath, where the air intakes are.
