I hear these constant (maybe 20-second interval) noises from my P-6831FX... (Kinda like flicking something metallic/magnetic.)
It kinda sounds like when my PS2 loads discs, so I'm assuming it's from loading (read/write?).
And since my DVD drive is empty, the only other rotating/loading part of the laptop is the HDD.
So I think my HDD is making that noise every 20-30 seconds.
Is it a defective HDD? (It loaded Vista up just fine though.)
Or am I just not used to Vista's constant pagefile writing and other weird things?
My laptop's just idling right now with no downloads or anything going on.

There are few guys with similiar 'noise' problem from HD you are facing your with FX. One guy returned it and got a new machine and said noise from HD is gone.

I had the wierd sound as well. I chose to ignore it but the HDD boot sector went kaput on day 10. Return it. My new rig has no such sound. Thank god.

Exchange it and if bestbuy wont take it talk to gateway
A gateway desktop I used had a drive start clicking and slowly clicking was more often eventually we sent in disc for exchange better since.
My P-6831FX's HDD (I think) is making weird sounds.
