    Hey guys,

Just wondering if someone can help me. I received my new Gateway laptop today and was playing around with it installing stuff onto it. I ended up going into the BIOS, but did not make any changes, then after that now when I turn on my laptop all the lights on the keyboard come on but my screen will not turn on.

I have tried leaving it off and taking out the battery, but the screen just wont come on.
I saw that another user had the exact same problem not long ago but his post did not include how he resolved the problem.

If someone has had this problem or you know how to fix it I would really appreciate any suggestions.

    Cheers.

OK now I have noticed even though my battery was saying 100% before when the power cable was plugged in, if I try and turn the laptop on without the power cable connected the lights go on for a second then they just turn off and the whole PC shuts off.
Just thought that was a bit weird..

had that problem on my 6831 FX...could mean some power directing chips on the power board where the notebook is plugged in, are blown.

    about a $100 fix.

Well I live in Australia so thats kind of a last resort.
I also had a USB mouse plugged in which I think may have been causing some problems. WHen I previously had it plugged in the PC would not start up and it would just beep, when I took it out previously though it was ok.

Well I had the same problem but I dont know if i am the member you referred to who had the same problem. However, i tried everything...it showed on the external monitor a few times but i had to send it back. i could still hear when vista started up...but it didn't start to play the fool when i was modifying anything...i was just switching the user in windows.
But gateway repair fixed 3 things: Replaced LCD, inverter and the LCD cable. I like you live out of the us...so i had to ship it there and get it sent back via skybox...they only fixed it in around 5 or 6 days though.

Thanks for your reply mate. Yep it sounds like I have the exact same problem. I really dont want to ship it back because that will cost me about $150 one way. Can anyone else suggest something I could try?

Yeah, that would be me. I took it into best buy since I had the extended warranty on it and they sent it out and it is currently waiting the arrival of "parts" according to the latest status update. When I get it back and if I know what they did, I'll be sure to update the forum. Sorry to hear that you are having a problem and even more sorry that I don't have a quick fix answer for you.

Thanks for the reply Mindstorm, I was refering to your post as the person with the same issue.
I have been reading on other forums and it looks like it may be a problem with a Nvidia chipset overheating. I did actually notice that my laptop was boiling hot after only a couple of minutes. I am shipping my laptop back tomorrow and hopefully I can get this sorted out and it wont happen again.
Agent14 have you had any troubles since you have received yours back? I cant handle having to pay for shipping another time after this.

Not per say...but they sent it back with the wrong resolution monitor...they replaced the lcd, inverter board, and lcd cable...and they replaced the gorgeous 1920 x 1200 wuxga+ monitor with a 1440 x 900 wxga+ monitor...i am livid. They said the only way to get it solved is by sending it back again...i wanted to be reimbursed for the difference...since shipping it to the US again from the Caribbean would be a pain...
