Welcome to Gateway Chat. My name and badge number are Carson_GWPR335. I am looking at your account and the information you submitted. I will begin troubleshooting with you in just a moment.
M.A. says:
ok
Carson_GWPR335 says:
Hello M.A.
M.A. says:
Hello
M.A. says:
so do you know what size HD is in my laptop?
M.A. says:
2.5 inch?
Carson_GWPR335 says:
According to your submission and my data, the serial number for your Gateway M-152XL Pacific Blue system is XXXXXXXXXX and the limited warranty expiration date is XX/XX/XXXX. In addition to that, your system came originally with 3 GB of RAM. Are these information correct?
M.A. says:
yes
Carson_GWPR335 says:
Thank you for confirming!
Carson_GWPR335 says:
For your inquiry, you have 2 pieces of 160 GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive Assembly on your Notebook.
M.A. says:
whats that supposed to mean -_-'
M.A. says:
i have HDs?
M.A. says:
two*
Carson_GWPR335 says:
Yes.
Carson_GWPR335 says:
That's how big the capacity of your hard drive. Ok
M.A. says:
so i have 2x80GB drives? is that what you are telling me?
Carson_GWPR335 says:
NO. you have 2X160 GB hard drive.
M.A. says:
2x160???? 320 GB total? what the hell??? I only have 160 GB....
M.A. says:
I think we are not understanding each other here.
Carson_GWPR335 says:
Please wait.
Carson_GWPR335 says:
Let me double check it.
M.A. says:
Oh and please dont yell at me again.
M.A. says:
I came here for help not harassment
Carson_GWPR335 says:
I'm not yelling.
M.A. says:
a word in all caps in an online chat constitutes yelling. Anyway, can you just tell me the size of my freaking HD. Is it a 2.5 inch?
Carson_GWPR335 says:
Yes, it's a 2.5 inch.
M.A. says:
okay thank you, thats all i needed to know.
M.A. says:
i do have one more quesiton
M.A. says:
is there someway to stop my battery from charging when it hits like 80%?
Carson_GWPR335 says:
You can unplug the power adapter when it hit 80%.
M.A. says:
yes i know that, but i was wondering if there was some software or such that could make it stop?
M.A. says:
i dont want battery life to die form constant recharging
Carson_GWPR335 says:
I'm not sure if there's any program that will stop the charging of a Notebook battery when it hit a certain percentage.
M.A. says:
okay well thx for all your help
Carson_GWPR335 says:
You're most welcome!
Carson_GWPR335 says:
I'm glad I have positively resolved your concerns/issues for today.

Just posted this here so people can have a laugh at their tech support. I dont even believe the guy when he says my HDD is 2.5 inches. These guys get paid to tell you this crap.
EDIT: But i did google my HDD and it is infact 2.5 inch.
-
-
But i DONT have 2x160 GB HDD... I have ONE HD. I DONT have 320 GB of space, I have 160 GB. Thats why i said 2x80 GB when he said I have two HD...i only have 160 GB of space. I always thought I only had 1 HDD, not two, thats why I was kind of surprised when he said I had two.
ST9160823AS. As far as I know thats only one drive. -
Not sure what the point of this is....if anything, he probably posted this chat on the Gateway in-house bulletin board with a "this is why I hate my job" scrawled in red ink across the top.
And after accusing him of yelling at you, not knowing a thing about the physical size of your drives, and not understanding that battery charging is a function of hardware not software you give Gateway Tech Support a bad repuation/rating.
There certainly is such a thing as bad tech support, but there is also such a thing as people who lack patience and understanding, as well as basic communication skills.
This is the latter. -
you where being a cant say it here to him
-
And I do consider a "NO" as yelling and since you mentioned it, a lack of patience too.
I only asked about the battery charging thing because someone in another thread i created told me that if i had a utility to make the battery stop charging at 80% to use it...I didnt think I had one but I decided to ask tech support if I do. I mean i was always lead to believe they are supposed to be better informed then the average user about their products...
i only posted this, as my title says, for people to have a good laugh at the fact that the tech support guy didnt even know what HDDs I had in my notebook even tho he had all the information concerning my model(note how he confirms that I have a M-152XL with such and such). 2x160??? BS. -
-
You were being a "X" to him.
You were being something the poster said he is not allowed to say on these forums. -
ah i see. thx for letting me know. i guess if the above posters applaud tech support like that...i honestly dont know what to say. being asked not to be yelled at is a fair request imo considering i did pay for my notebook, which comes with tech support.
-
well next time just google your question before chating with tech support, that might save frustration on both sides .
-
i was actually thinking about doing that. but i was like uh i dont know whats my HDD called, so i went to tech support. Then after wards, it hit me that i could just find the model number of the HDD thru device manager...so ya lol.
-
Seriously, next time you try to post something with the intentions of humiliating someone, make sure you don't make yourself look dumb. I've seen some bad tech support posted before, and I didn't see anything wrong with what Carson said. If you are so sensitive to think someone is yelling at you by typing "NO" then you shouldn't be so quick to respond with curse words and lots of question marks.
I understand you were just looking for a simple question answered, and he got something irrelevant to your question wrong, but in the end you got what you were looking for didn't you? And like the previous poster stated, you should have used Google or maybe even looked on the specs of your laptop on Gateway's website and just made things overall easier. -
The Tech response was not that bad, I have had worse.
-
hell i had worse, i ha dto go through 6 or 7 reps. just to find one that will understand my query.
anyway someone said that patience is 50% of wisdom. -
I applaud the tech guy for being able to put up with you....
-
I personally think my response to him was justified. But if you guys dont, thats fine, everyone has their opinions. It is good to keep a good rep about oneself but hey if this drags my name in the dirt...I am not gunna cry about it. My point in posting this was to less to humiliate and more to bash on GW tech support. Cheers.
BTW I didnt cuss at him. -
And he didn't yell at you. You do realize that the capital "O" in no was a most likely a typo, right?
Anyway, I don't see anything wrong there. He may have had some wrong info (keep in mind, he isn't psychic, and only has so much to go on), but it has been blown WAY out of proportion. -
I enjoyed the 2X160Gb HDD comment. Maybe when I order mine I should have a little email correspondence on the system. Maybe email dual HDD confirmation and maybe dual GPU's? When it does not come with I can complain and get discount.
But I hope you have learned avoid their customer service unless you are really stuck. -
please respect tech people, they are humans too, not robots. although they do sound like robots lol
-
"Have a good laugh" - yes. I'm laughing , but not at the tech support guy.
-
You never looked at a report/something quickly and made a quick mistake?
It's also worth noting that I have run into quite a few people lately with two harddisks in a RAID 1 configuration, and they didn't have a clue....perhaps you have a similar configuration and are not even aware of it and that would mean you do have two 160gb drives...just mirror images. And, when the tech support guy realized it, he saw no reason to mess up your head.
Also,
Will they help you out if you have a question? Sure, but you came in with a crap load a attitude just like you are here....and the worst part, it is an attitude of superiority, which is clearly unwarranted.
LOL at this dumb tech support guy? NO = yelling?
C'mon. Shame on you. If you really think that way, you should be embarrassed. -
I do now regret posting this here. I thought more people would think my way, but i guess not.
As I said, I still think my response was completely justified but if you guys dont think so...more power to you.
Live and learn I guess. Now I know to avoid tech support until the last straw and never post my conversation with them on these forums. You guys can experience them for your self. -
Just a friendly FYI: 99.99999999999% of laptop drives are 2.5"
-
-
And if you're the type of person who needs to cover his ears and get mad when you see caps in a chat session, I would seriously just consider calling up gateway next time. -
Looked like the Gateway guy was doing a good job, but I still found the convo funny. It was like something out of a scene on "The Office" or something.
-
There was nothing wrong or funny about the Gateway technician. He was trying to assist you in his best. Indeed, you are the one sounds funny to me.
-
I did a follow up tech chat session, since after talking to that guy I was kind of hoping maybe by fluke i got 2x160 HDDs (even tho i knew that it really wasnt true, it didnt hurt to have false hope for 2 mins) and the next guy told me that you couldnt put two HDDs in any notebook. but i know via raid thats possible. meh. whatever...
-
He lives in a world where he is always right and everyone else is just breathing his air....$20 says that when there's a traffic jam on the freeway, he races in the left lane and squeezes in causing a chain reaction that slows down traffic for miles--but as long as he gets there a little sooner. -
-
Not true...I'm sure once again you did not make yourself clear
Here is a notebook you can put three harddrives in:

Now, now boys. Play nice.
1. There are stupid people working tech support. No doubt.
2. If you want to make a complaint like this, and expect sympathy, go to the consumerist.com. Not here.
3. You are not allowed to make fun of others with respect to technology if you have to call tech support to find out the size of your HDD.
4. Next time, ask your questions here first.
Now move along. Nothing to see here. -
-
I found it kind of fitting that your rank is "NBR Janitor" and you posting that lol. Not an insult, just an observation.
