    Hello folks,

Here I'm asking for help with a Gateway T-6836u, modified with currently T3200/2GB/250GB/GM965 Chipset. System body is fully functional, because I currently can type to you all with this machine...

It arrived as my grandma's future computer, and all it had is a broken screen. I poped it up and replaced the screen without too much difficulty.

However, the system is Super Hot. So I re-opened the assembly again, opened everything apart and eventually took off a lot of Tape over motherboard and/or lower bezel fan openings. I'm not sure it was a good decision.. but it was intended to enhance system heat dissipation!

But here is the problem. It only can run with External VGA. I broke the LCD cable and bought another one. I suspect the invertor is dead, and I bought another one.. (but it's still shipping from HongKong, too expensive for in-U.S. price). When I plug the LCD cable into motherboard and secure the "ring" thing, SYSTEM JUST WILL NOT BOOT. It doesn't light up!

I'm not sure what's the problem, but I wish everybody can help me....when I'm waiting for replacement invertor.... My grandma said.. if it costs even more to fix the laptop.. she'd give up....... But I had it running.. though hotly... for a while! Please help, folks. Thank you. And ask me for additional tech details... I'll be glad to provide everything I can.. Thanks thanks!
