PLease help me with my purchase. I purchased the MX7118 from OD for $679 with these specs.
    CPU- Athlon 3400+
    1GB PC2700
    80GB HD
    15.4" WXGA
    4 USB 2.0
Memory Card reader including CF cards (impressive)

I thought this was a great deal and I love this computer and can do my photoediting on Adobe CS with great ease but as usual, doubts have started creeping in.
How does this compare with the Turion ML-34 or the Intel Duo Core T2300? I think this is a great deal for $679 and actually I got this brand new on clearance. Is this a good deal and a good computer? Thanks guys.

The Athlon 3400+ is slightly faster than the ML34. The Core Duo however is much faster than it.
What are these doubts? Are you not satisfied with it's performance?

Actually I have no way of comparing the said processors. I do a lot of photo editing on Adobe PS and use a variety of other tools and want a laptop that does not slow me down.
I have been able to bump up the video memory to 128MB since and so far so good but I don't want to be caught unaware with a laptop that might slow me down. I got this because I was attracted by the price but if the Intel duo core will make a lot of difference then I'd rather get that.
I don't play Video games and do not need it for gaming but do a lot of picture editing using Adobe CS2, Nikon Capture amongst other things so the 80GB 4200RPM HD is also fine I guess.

If you have no intentions of playing games, I'd take away from the video memory, as excessive v-ram will cripple your Windows performance. You would notice a boost in performance with a Core Duo, but the Athlons are good cads for PS too. For the things that you do, the only thing that I would change is the harddrive. But if you are satisfied, I see no reason to change it.

Thanks, I did think about the HD but it seems to do the job well right now.

How do you bump the video memory?

Okay I foudn a program called power strip that you can use to overclock your graphics card. I was wondering if it would be fine to over clock the video card from 64 mb to 128?

over clock from 64m to 128m? so crasy. The best way is add a 64m video memory on the MB.
