Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone has a solution to the problem I have with my newly purchased NV 5909h (one with ati 5650).
It basically makes this annoying high pitch noises like cx2724 model a while back. http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=2674&page=4
the problem for me is that it happens as soon as windows boot up, either with or without the battery on. the noise is coming from the speakers as far as i can tell, from both sides. Funny thing is that the sound persists when I disable my sound card, leading me to suspect that the speaker is picking up noises from somewhere else, or rather the soundcard seems to be as this noise can be heard from my earphone as well. Would this have anything to do with cpu power management? or just that my motherboard is a crap? i have gotten exchange already from the retailer, same problem... great computer for price... with annoying sound.
i would appreciate it if anyone can help me out

also found out that whenever my cpu is running at a high capacity, the noise seems to go lower/ or disappear

I have the same problem with my computer. The sound is definitely coming from the speakers (whether on or off). I originally thought this noise was coming from a fan but now I believe that the noise is being picked up from the hard disk drive. When the drive is very active and heads are moving rapidly the noise appears to fade in and out with its movement. I am wondering if a new hard drive (from a different manufacture) may help. I will try and find a spare and see if that resolves this problem. I will post if I find anything out.

I have exactly the same problem. It is the harddrive. When I roll my mosewheel the noise interrupts.
I tried Gateway support but they were not knowledgeable...offering me to reinstall windows and things like that. After I got a hold on a manager, they admitted there is a problem and suggested that I have to send it to a repair depot.
Since I am using the laptop everyday, I decided to hold on sending it to the depot, and for now I just covered the speakers with a tape and bought EAR PLUGS....yes, it is sad, but true.
So you are saying that you exchanged it with the retailer and the problem persists with another unit? May be the whole line has the defect, then. Hopefully, as more and more people complain, gateway will do something about it....lets face it, the model is very new.
I agree, the laptop is great for the price, but one shouldnt buy ear plugs as laptop accessories. -
Has there been any other issues besides this?

Several people have had this problem with the NV59 series.
