Ive'd been keeping an eye on the NV7901u and i was wondering aside from no fingerprint scanner is this the best bang for the buck at $850?

I've been wondering the same thing. As far as I can tell, for a 17", a laptop with better specs for cheaper or same price hasnt been found.
With bing cashback at 5%, this makes it pretty much a $800 laptop. So this even makes it a better deal IMO.
But, would like to see other options if I did miss any other good spec'd laptops out there when I was researching. -
Looks like Micro Center has them too, but states it as having no Blue-ray, which the specs for the n7901u on the Gateway website say there is no BD-drive. Guessing, J&R need to adjust that, pretty sure it doesnt have blueray now.

The NV7920u does come with Blue ray but you only get Chassis with Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD with 128MB of dedicated system memory supporting Microsoft® and Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset4 for $799
The NV7902u has NO blue ray drive but comes with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 with up to 4091MB of HyperMemory (1024MB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM, up to 3067MB of shared system memory) and Mobile Intel® HM55 Express for $849
So you may want to make damn sure what your getting from JR's.
Those that got the lucky buys on the Best Buy $499 Gateway NV5927U Bluray and Core i5 in late January got the deal of the year. -
I would say this is the best bang for the buck for 2010 so far. Gateway has really improved on there style and reliablity this year. my last Toshiba laptop that this replaced has lasted 7 years and is still kicking with no problems ever. Hope this laptop can match that time frame.

Yeah this post is old I & the GF already own it currently sharing it till i get my G73JH-A1.
But we highly recommend it to anyone & direct yah towards the review thread lotta info incoming there -

Shame the deal is dead, was quite good. But For me personally, I have to have a laptop with a dedicated, Good enough GPU.
-
Same here, dedicated is a must, but the 5927 still was a great deal. I honestly don't mind losing the blu ray and adding a nice dedicated GPU like the 7901.
For the price of the nv9701u, you really can't go wrong. Best current deal that I was able to find, and I've been looking EVERYWHERE for weeks now.
For anyone that might be following this thread, or for those who might come across it wondering the same thing, here's a link to the nv7901u review/discussion thread that we have going now.
