I have one of those 7811FX beasts and been curious as to which cooler would be the better purchase for me. Essentially I am down to either http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834998686 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997340 and not sure which one I should pick at this point.

for what it is worth I have the NZXT cooler. I got it a few months ago when I purchased my FX6860 from best buy. I really like it a lot. Cannot talk about the other ones as this is the only "real" cooler I have every had (I am discounting the cheap plastic $20 ones from Targus, etc. that I used in a different laptop in the past). I can't honestly say that the temps are down a huge amount when I run PC Wizard or other temp programs but then again I haven't actually written the numbers down. But when I game hard with the laptop on it, the bottom of the laptop is significantly cooler than when I play games without the cooler - such as Gears of War. Plus the hot air pumping out of the laptop does not seem quite as warm when I use the cooler - again when gaming. If not gaming it does not seem to be necessary. I am sure there are several others such as what you mentioned that do the same thing but this one really works. If you go with this, make sure you get a nice sized backpack if you want to transport it. I can fit this and the laptop and all the accessories in mine, but it is a Swiss Gear (25 Liter volume) backpack - it is not that special, Circuit City had a bunch in a bin for half off several weeks ago but my point is it is bigger than a lot of others I saw.

I looked at the same decision - I went with the NZXT because it moves more air and the fans are situated in the rear and align better with the intakes on our notebooks. With the Zalman, you would have to position the notebook further forward on the cooler in order to take advantage of the vents.

I have the zalman and without having to position the notebook in some odd way my max gpu temps running 3dmark06 is 64c and without it 82-83c
NZXT Black Aluminum Notebook cooler or ZALMAN Notebook Cooler
