I own a Gateway NV 78, and after three months of struggling, realize that I absolutely HATE the keyboard. Not only the poor layout, but something about the flat keys makes typing on it extremely unpleasant. I have used dozens of keyboards over the years and this is the absolute worst.

So seeing as how Gateway has used this same keyboard on so many different models (I just saw that the NV 79 uses it as well) has anyone found a replacement keyboard for this machine that is not so poorly-designed?

There must be other people who despise this keyboard as much as I do, and yet Gateway keeps using it. I'm ready to get rid of an otherwise excellent laptop because of this problem.

I heard something a few years back about how notebook manufacturers were going to start standardizing notebook components, so this gives me hope that possibly a keyboard from some other brand might fit this unit.

I doubt that this would ever happen. FN special keys are one area where a "standard" keyboard is not possible. Testing the keyboard feel out at a local store is the best way to use this as part of acquiring a notebook.

    cheers ...
