I have a Gateway M6827 that presents a no power situation. The warranty expired on 12/3/09 of course.

I used the charger and from a working 6827 and it still does not beep, no fan, no lights, etc. I could not take the battery from another working unit yet, but I know the charger runs another 6827 just fine.

I pulled the battery, RAM, HDD - as much as I could easily and still no power.

GW support site says it should still power up even with no battery. The light on the front won't even come on. GW says you "might" take everything out and hold the power button down for 30 seconds and/or FN+F1, but still nothing. I left it with no battery and no plug for a day and a half.

I suspect the DC input jack and read that can be an issue and sometimes fixed. I jiggled and wiggled it ubt still nothing, so I want to take if apart further but would like to follow some directions from a manual - like how to replace the MB if I end up having to do that.

I can get a MB but want to replace it myself.

Any suitable docs out there to share or point me to about how to strip this thing down and put it back together?

I also have an M6827 that just shorted out at the dc plug. Smells like burning ozone. Unit still works on battery but will not charge or work on ac power. Could also use a manual.
jossiebarra have you had any luck.
I found a few sources for motherboards and also just the dc port. I don't know how that attaches and if things are too fried for that fix.
Got the screws out and the hinge covers off but not sure what comes off next.

Never found a manual and was trying to get this working for a friend who had a second unit that works okay.

The battery from the second unit runs the afflicted unit that has no power from the adapter so I know the system "works" okay from battery. He swaps batteries until he decide he wants to replace the MB at a shop, or let me tear into it and maybe hit the DC jack connections with a hot soldering iron - and even then the motherboard might still need replacing.

He uses the for his kids home schooling so downtime for repair has been backburnered since they are able to do what they need to do swapping battery packs.

If your unit is still in warranty, get GW to set up a repair order. I can give you advice on how to make GW pay attention to that after dealing with them on a warranty repair that them seemed very reluctant to want to do. I know their methods now. I don't like their methods, but I know how to get things in for repair now.

Here are the links I found that have some information that was not helpful to me yet:
