I have just re-formatted the hard drive on an old Gateway Laptop. I seem to have gotten everything to work except the sound card. The error messages the system is returning indicate no sound card exists at all.
There is definitely a sound card in the system as it was working fine (sound wise) prior to the re-format.
The system is old. I do not have any of the original discs or books on the system. I do not know what kind of sound card this laptop has and do not know how to proceed in determining what sound card it has or how to get it to work. Anyone's help would be appreciated.
This is a Gateway M320 laptop
Model #M320S-3400335
Serial #0035800954
I ran Belarc advisor prior to reformatting in hopes I'd be able to identify components for just this type of problem. The only information related to sound is in the "multimedia" category which indicates: SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
I have run Belarc against, post-reformat, and there is nothing at all in the Multimedia category. I see nothing having to do with sound at all.
Sorry for sounding like a newb. Would appreciate any help anyone might want to offer.

Assuming you are running XP here you go. Link Install that and you should be good to go.
