I'm replacing a dead hard drive on a friends Gateway laptop. On the bottom of it, it says it is Model No. W322. I am unable to find any information anywhere about this model number. If I input the serial number into Gateway's lookup tool, it comes back as a 3520GZ. Are the W322 and 3520GZ model #s the same machine?
Reason I want to know what I'm working with is that she doesn't have the restore discs that came with it. I tried to order them from Gateway, but they apparently aren't available anymore. I've got XP installed from a new disc, but hibernate/sleep and wired and wireless ethernet isn't working. I'm assuming both are related to the proper drivers not installed. I want to make sure I install the correct drivers before I give it back to her.
Thanks!!!

Anyone have any idea about this? I'll admit, I'm a bit dysfunctional when it comes to Windows as I usually work with Macs. I put this project away for a couple of weeks, but am working on it again. Since I can't get online with the Gateway yet, I'm downloading the drivers to my Mac and burning them to disc. I input the serial number in Gateway's site and it comes back as a 3520GZ, not a W322 as is listed on the bottom. Pictures I've seen of the 3520GZ seem to be identical, but the drivers don't seem to match the hardware that is installed, at least not the Broadcom card. I would purchase the restore discs if I could find them, but I'm not having any luck with that either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a spare laptop drive around, you could put that into it and then check the bios to get the model number. Also, if you are curious about what hard drive to put into it as a replacement, any 2.5" laptop drive should work..

Press the windows button, right click "My computer" and then click "Properties. The notebook doesnt have an ethernet cable port? If it does, that should give you internet access without need of drivers.

Another option is to go to the device manager and get the hardware info there, then download drivers onto a disk from your mac.

Just found system information and that tells me this model is a M250, bottom of case says W322. I'm assuming whatever is in system information would be the most accurate? Did a bit of browsing online and M250 and W322 seem to cross reference each other. I believe Gateway in the past sometimes gave models bought directly from them (as this one was) a different model number than what was sold in stores, even though the hardware was the same or similar. I'll give this a try and report back.
Anyone know for sure if Gateway W322 and M250 are the identical hardware?
Thanks!!! -
Grrrr I got it finally. Once I figured out what I'm working with is a M250, that made things a lot easier. Don't know whats up with Gateway's model numbers, but whats on the case isn't whats inside - at least not in this case.
Thanks for the help idiotpilot!!!
