Maybe you guys can help me explain myself better to the techs.

    Here is the history:

Started having horizontal "static" issues in Vista, XP and even the bios screen.

Sent the Laptop off to Depot and the replaced the mobo and the gpu. Side note the gpu is the 1GB version not the 512MB version.

Upon return the drivers were not loaded so I loaded drivers and started using my "upgraded" machine.

Now the display "sparkles" every few minutes after prolonged use. We are talking while on Facebook, not running Crysis or anything hard.

Sent it back to the depot to have it repaired and it was returned with a note stating there is no problem.

I called Gateway and expressed my frustration at the problem and was told I could send it in again, but if the tech could not see the issue then noting would be done.

Ok how can I explain the issue or is the some diag I can run to point them in the right direction to fix the issue. I hate doing their job for them, but I want my laptop fixed.

    Thanks

Take a photo of the problem... I can't seem to picture what you're describing.

The "sparkles" are several 1 to 2 inch lines that quickly roll from the bottom of the screen to the top in random places.

That was what I initially sent it in for, now it is not that extreme. I did fix steps in that post but it did not help. Also the video driver keeps failing.

How did you manage to get the 1gb GPU into the 7811? The driver might be the problem, did you recently upgraded it?

Gateway replaced the GPU with the 1gb version. I used the most recent driver from nVidia and the issues are still there. Gateway just received my laptop again. Maybe it will be fixed this time.

hey did you try using hdmi out or vga out? if it has the problem its gpu for sure! if not its prolly the screen and is not connected well or is shortening out. had a similar problem with a dell latitude.

Got my 7811 back from the depot again.

This time they noted that they replaced the mainboard again. This time the system had the 512MB GPU and not the 1GB.

Guess What.......NO PROBLEMS....at least so far.

I have been running all day and no fickers, static or anything.

    Hope it lasts
