For some reason, no overclocking software seems to work for me. ntune was what I used with Vista last time I overclocked, but that isn't supported anymore on 7. I tried ATI tools, but it keeps telling me the kernel mode driver isn't running (even after I disabled the check for digitally signed drivers). When I google the error ATI tray tools is giving me, I get a bunch of pages in foreign languages, and no explanations. Rivatuner is the only one that looks like it sort of works, and it has been by far the most recommended, but it won't detect the clocks correctly. It sets them way lower than stock to begin with, even on the performance 3d setting, and I can't overclock them because the bars that you drag to do so don't even go above stock clocks.

Rivatuner works for overclocking, but only for the lower 3 profiles :). To overclock the "Extra" profile, you can use MSI Afterburner, which is basically an ultra-dumbed down Rivatuner. It works great though if all you want to mess with is the Extra profile.

As for overclocking, take it in steps, using ATITool to check for artifacts. I've had it take up to 10 minutes for an error to show up. Once you find the clocks you want to use, I recommend running ATITool for an hour. This next tip may be obvious but overclock and test the stability for the core/shader (combined) and memory independently.

May your card be better than mine!

ATITool doesn't work though. I'll check out MSI afterburner. I have some stable clocks that I was using before, so I figure I'll start with those. My undervolt may mean I can't push it that hard anymore though.

MSI's tool has the same problem as rivatuner.

    Hey gamadaya,

I like to use this utility: EVGA Precision 2.0.0.
It works perfectly in Windows 7 and it lets you set the clocks on startup as well.

Nice, this one actually looks like it works. I'll test it out later and tell you if it did.

I just use Nvidia system tools, which I have configured to OC whenever I run any game I have and return the default configuration whenever the game is ended. This way the GPU is OC'd only when a game is running..seems to be working ok, as 3Dmark points vary whenever the settings are varied.

Wow ATITool doesn't work on Win7? What do you use to test for stability?

I was having some problems with system tools, although I can't remember what they were now. If evga's thing doesn't work, I'll try system tools again. Precision seems like a good program though, although I can't figure out how to make profiles.

    3dmark06 and some random games.

Oops, I should specify that ATITool does work in Win7. It just doesn't work for me in Win7.

Well Tanware knows his stuff. I guess I'll have to get ATITool working then. It looks like the 3D view and scan for artifacts options actually work though, so I'll run a test with those.

Great! I don't think the overclocking feature with ATITool ever works for us any way. It's kinda sad that there is only one artifacting detector program out there (to my knowledge).

I use OCCT to check for errors, seems to be working fine.

That's a great program! I guess there is more than 1 artifact detector :). Does the error checker make "dings" when there is an error like ATITool? (I didn't want to test this myself.)

Edit: I answered my own question (by looking in the options).

Yeah it really is a great little software, all in one stability tests in there. :)

I'm worried with it like with ATITool that it doesn't stress test the memory, since it hardly uses any memory in the stress test. The memory test is just physical error checking I think.

    Go here http://forum.notebookreview.com/gat...te-solution-nvlddmkm-video-crash-p-7805u.html
Download my GPU Flashing Kit, and download Nibitor.
Use Nibitor to edit my "Andros.rom" and change the Extra clocks to whatever you want your overclocked values to be. Make sure to follow the instructions on the link above on how to go about flashing your GPU. If I were you I wouldn't go above the GPU settings that are posted on my Sig.

    Andros
