Hi guys,
I have a problem with my old M6805 and your help will be greatly appreciated.
Problem is rather complicated (and probably funny to an extent):
(1) WinXP reports "unmountable_boot_volume" upon boot. Safe mode (w/ w/o console) doesn't help -- same response.
(2) DVD combo drive has been dead for quite a while so I can't fix WinXP from my disk.
What I need is to access files on my hard drive. So far I tried the following steps (unsuccessfully):
(3) Purchased 2 different IDE enclosures for laptop drives. When I plug my hard drive into either of them and try to read it through USB on my desktop, it fails to read any files. (Windows reports "Disk is inaccessible".)
(4) Explored an idea of plugging a different DVD drive into the laptop. I took M6805 apart but DVD connector appears to be specific to Emachine. I can't just plug in a desktop version of DVD drive.
The hard drive is Hitachi, Travelstar, ATA/IDE, 7200rpm. The older version of the hard drive that shipped with the laptop (5400rpm) exhibits EXACTLY same behavior with exactly same "unmountable_boot_volume" error in WinXP.
Any ideas as for the easiest way to access files on disk? I don't care for WinXP. All l need is to access my files to copy them elsewhere.
Perhaps, someone knows a good quality external enclosure that WAS TESTED to work with these hard drives?
Thanks,
Wyrm

Does the hard disk spin up when connected to the computer?
edit-Notebooks have some special connector for DVD drives. -
The hard disk is also successfully recognized by BIOS.
