I bricked my laptop with a bios flash, just trying to lower the idle voltage. Followed directions to a T and now when my laptop boots I get three beeps and a black screen.

I do have the backed up BIOS but I can't get it to work for some reason. I'm doing a blind bios restore using nvflash.

I tried, in the dark, 'nvflash -4 -5 -6 oldbios.rom' and pressed Y every few seconds for about a minute. Tried this several times. I can't see what's going on.

Still get 3 beeps at boot.

Somehow my backup bios must be tainted. Can I please get a copy of yours? Or maybe some advice? Is it permanently ruined? Please help if you can.

    It's a P7805u with a 1GB 9800M GTS.

    Thank you so much.

Oh ... there goes my future attempt of doing the same thing. Did you lower all of the .9 voltages to the same thing or did you change them independently? From what I saw people lowered them all equally. I've got a ROM for you, just tell me how I should send it to you.

I only had two choices in nibitor, 1.1 v and .8 v. I lowered everything except for the gaming voltage to .8, I left the gaming one at 1.1 (I can't remember the exact name for the gaming one, it wasn't 3D but the one above it.)

Can you mail a video rom to REMOVED NOW please? That would be nice. Thanks a lot.

Ok I emailed it to you.

QUOTE: "I only had two choices in nibitor, 1.1 v and .8 v."

For me my two voltage choices were 1.12V and .9V and I had to manually create other voltages.

Perhaps the problem it that you can't flash the vid bios without a working card, because it doesn't seem like Windows is willing to work without it. There was a thread a while ago about hooking up a desktop graphics card to a laptop through the PCI-e mini port. Its worth looking into. The only other option for keeping it if you can't get it working is to replace the motherboard.

The next time I get a laptop I'm going to boycott any model that doesn't use MXM so this kind of crap doesn't happen.

    Here are you options:

1: contact gateway and see what a repair would cost
2: contact a 3rd party BIOS repair facility such as aqstech.com (about $100)
3: Replace the motherboard (if it's less than a repair would cost)

So how exactly did you get this to work without being able to see the screen? Did you follow his directions exactly without being able to see or was there some other process that you figured out. I bought a 7805u pretty cheap with the three beep errors that the guy said was from a failed modded bios update attempt. So far I haven't found anything to work, and I've tried quite a bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's been a while but yes, I did it with no screen. I looked at flashing lights on the USB drive and the beeps from the motherboard speaker. Just follow the directions to a T and hopefully it will work for you. I'm no expert. Good luck.

Anyway you happen to still have the Andros GPU BIOS Flashing Kit.zip file? I've downloaded from his post, but it gives me an error when trying to open the zip file that the archive is not appear to be valid so I am currently awaiting a reply on that. Thanks for the quick answer!

No, sorry. It's been sold and I now have an Asus gaming laptop so I had no reason to hang on to them. Wish I did for you but I don't.

I just checked it myself. I was able to download his flashing kit and extract all the contents just fine so you may want to check it again. I had no hiccups at all doing it.

Okay, I got it. It was giving an error with windows explorer built in .zip utility but when I opened it in winrar, it worked just fine. I'll give this a try in a little bit, or tomorrow morning. Do you remember if the three beeps still played when you did this? Thanks!

Um, no, I don't remember what happened at first but I remember I had too wait for what seemed like an unnaturally long time for the completion beep. Follow the directions to a T and then wait a long time for the final beep. I didn't wait long enough a few times.
